Default Altered clipboard- Can you really use it?

I see a lot of adorable altered clipboards. I would like to make one, but am wondering the practicality of actually being able to use it. I see many with little buttons, ribbons and embellishments, and I thought this would make it difficult to use. Any thoughts?

I think some are made more with a decoration end in mind, especially those including a lot of bumpy elements. But I did decorate one and I use it all the time to hold my cross stitch patterns and mark sections off. I made sure not too use anything lumpy. I just painted the background and then I stamped some images and I only added ribbons on the top, where the clip is. It's practical and prettier than it was when I got it.

HTH!

My thought on the clipboards is that you go to all the trouble to make it cute, then clamp a sheaf of papers on top of all of it! LOL!

Hmm...I was using one last week to hold all my lists while shopping for a birthday party, a 12-hour scrapping event, and an awards banquet for our swim team (yes, three big events in three days) and I got caught in a rainstorm. I didn't even think about my clipboard until I got home. The papers had stuck to it and I can't get it off. This one had modpodge on it and was not sealed. <sigh> So if you are going to use one and plan to get caught in a rainstorm, use an acrylic sealer.

The very first one I made was painted with acrylic paint (metallic gold) and stamped using craft pads. I purchased some cork board and cut it into pieces small enough to glue onto the clipboard, then I attached magnetic strips to the back. I dipped some round, flat pushpins in craft ink, then into embossing powder and heated them. These are used on the corkboard portion. Any portion not covered in cork has buttons glued to it. At the top I tied gold cord around it.

It now has a prominent place on my frig and is beautiful as well as practical!

That's good to know...thanks for passing that along. I'm only sorry that you learned that the hard way, and I learned it at your expense.

I make a tone of them with a photo on it and give it as a framed photo of my kids. It can go anywhere, I tend to make them in colors that may fit the person I am giving it to(sometimes not) It looks great to include a photo that matches . I have one posted in my gallery.

I have several, and I used them all the time. I take a mini, about 5x7, with me to the grocery store. Another holds my payments at my workshops & classes. I have 1 just for PTA, and 1 for our Brownie Girl Scout meeting. Ok, I am starting to sound like a clipboard junkie!
