When using OMS

do you dip your blending stump into the OMS (Odorless Mineral Spirits) or use your pencil and OMS? Which technique works better? TIA!

I put some OMS on a small piece of felt. I then get OMS on my stump by rubbing it on the felt. I actually use the tortillions. I like those better for me. Before I tried it this way, I put the stump in the OMS. I wouldn't put the pencil in the OMS, I don't think that would work out well, for the pencil anyway.

I do the same thing, but I have seen people who put the pencil in the OMS.
But I don't want to do that, lol, I am little picky about how my pencils look like.

btw when I saw the topic and OMS, I was like, who would be talking about OMS on Splitcoast. I work in electric company (PECO) and work every day with OMS (Outage Management System) LoL

I have a little plastic clamshell box -and place a little square sponge in it, dribble the OMS on the sponge and then dab the stump onto the sponge.
HTH!

I wouldn't dip colored pencils straight into OMS. OMS breaks down the wax in the pencil allowing the pigment color to be moved around to smooth out the pencil mark and to blend with other colors.
Here is GinaK's video tutorial for colored pencils/OMS. HTH! May God bless, Sandi

Nah.....I can't imagine dipping the pencil in it would really get you the blended look at all. I have a dauber bottle from M's....it is like a stamp moistener bottle with a sponge on the top and a plunger under the sponge that you push down (bottle upside down) to release some of the liquid into the sponge. I love it because you have very little of the OMS exposed to the air and if it gets knocked over, nothing spills which is a good plus for me since I'm kind of a klutz!

I got my OMS in a dabber bottle from Inky Antics. It is an bingo dauber container filled with OMS. The top is a little spongy fabric piece. I just tap my stump onto the top after I've turned the bottle upside down. I just can't imagine that putting your pencils in the OMS would be all that good for your pencils.

Ditto and now I refill my bottle with generic OMS. Like others have said, dipping the pencil is a bad idea because you are actually melting the wax in the pencil. I would imagine that it would ruin the pencil for color without OMS.

I've got a picture of the M's bottle on my blog here http://craftharsis.blogspot.com/2007...l-toolbox.html
Ann suggested it and I it works awesome. BTW Ann my mom saw your work in Rubberstamp Madness magazine yesterday congrats!

At the bottom on the right, there is a little google video button. Click on it and click "original size." It will be much clearer.
