Default Paper for colored pencils?

I have admired the beautiful work done with colored pencils, so yesterday bought a blender pen. I want to practice with some colored pencils I already own, but am not sure what paper to use. I don't want to get totally frustrated right out of the box. Help me please, all you awesome colored pencil folks!

I really like to use SU's natural's white or natural's ivory card stock. The surface is easy to color on and blend on. I stay away from papers with texture as I think it is more difficult to get an even color on them. Also, I have found that "lightweight" card stock never shows the coloring/blending as well as heavier. Good luck! Once you do it, you'll love it!

I usually use either Wausau Exact Index cardstock (either 110# or 65#) that I buy at Office Depot (Walmart also carries Wausau) or I use Domtar Cougar super smooth super white 130# cardstock. I think the smoother the finish the paper has the nicer it will look since, in my experience, the colour moves and blends nicer.

Totally agree. I also use these great papers! Bristol Smooth is excellent too. I use them for my illustration works and coloring with my Prismacolors pencils, markers and Copics. I also love the brightness of the sheet.

Happy Coloring

I also use Smooth Bristol, you can get large sizes and cut them down. It also is great for markers

Bristol and Wausau are new paper brands to me. Thanks for telling us about them. I'll have to check out Office Max.

Smooth bristol is a type of paper, not a brand. I use Beinfang or Bienfang brand but probably any smooth bristol will work You might be able to find it at Walmart in their art/stationary section. I get mine from my Fred Meyer grocery store.
