Default help with crayon resist

I am trying to make the lovely as a tree card with moon black trees and then a green tree with snow in the foreground. It is not working. First, how do you see where you are coloring? Second do you use clear embosing powder on the black trees? I want to acheive depth but don't know what order to stamp. Any of you talented stampers have some advice?
thanks

Are you using glossy paper for the crayon resist?
