What did I do wrong?

 I was so excited to try the bleach technique and then was soooo disappointed. It did nothing to my paper-- okay I thought maybe I was using color safe bleach-- my husband buys it because he does all the laundry! I t wasn't color safe so what is the problem?

Results of the bleach technique vary depending on the quality and the colors of the paper you use. Don't be discouraged! Try again using a different color. I actually thought experimenting with what the bleach did to each color was the most interesting part of this technique. :-) My favorite was the nice mustard color I got when bleaching pumpkin pie card stock.

Maybe you are not leaving the bleach on long enough? I love the effect it does on the SU black cardstock! Like Cindy said, try different colors of cardstock and see what you like the best.

I've found that sometimes high quality cardstock doesn't really do much with bleach. Try some different types. Also if your bleach isn't fresh it won't work as well but I'd check out the cardstock first.

I tried it on a non SU purple and only orange. The purple paper bubbled because I had to saturate it to work. The only orange did nothing! It was the last of a bottle of bleach so I will try again with the new bottle.

I just checked back and yes! Do try a new bottle. I had forgotten, this happened to me once during a class. I prepped everybody for this great effect and voila! Nothing happened. Good thing for me we had new bleach handy. Good luck and let us know what happens. :-)

You can also try the gel bleach in the tube. It works well for me. I usually pour bleach onto paper towels on a paper plate and dab. I have always had good luck with this technique. Good Luck!

Bleach loses it power when left out or kept in a non-opaque container. Start with some new stuff and you should have better results.

I used this and an aqua pen to apply it. If it doesn't bleach enough, apply more after the first is dry-it does take a few minutes to know the final outcome.

Here's a sample using Not quite Navy it turns pinkish

and Pomegranite I like that with guava

and Orange turns yellow

Bleaching Technique Issues....

One thing to keep in mind is that bleach loses it's power over time. It oxidises in the air each time you open and close it. The fresher the bleach the better image you will create. Additionally all paper is different. A felt weave will bleach differently than a linen paper, etc. etc. Bleaching is one of the most fun things to do! Just keep playing.
