What is black magic?

How is this technique done? I've seen numerous cards done and they said the technique was "black magic".

The Black Magic technique uses colored pencils instead of chalks with the white craft ink. Here's a great tutorial by the Queen of the Black Magic Technique, Karen Barber:

I have also read some posts that say watercolor pencils work best for this technique.

Here is a more recent Black Magic tutorial by Karen Barber with further thoughts on the technique, and using the watercolor pencils:

Thank you so much for the information. I really appreciate it. It looks like I'm going to have fun with this technique!

Black Magic is also the name of a brand new cardstock. All the sheets
look black but they all have a different colored core for tearing, sanding,
etc. Just for your info - I don't remember the brand but I just recently saw
this at my LSS.
