Hi,
This is probably a silly question but I was wondering If there is a way to make your own Alchol Inks? Money is tight and I would love to use these inks,
Thanks,
KimAndersen who frequents the ATC swap board has done this. I know that she has posted it to her blog. I'm sure if you pm'd her she'd be happy to help you out.
You can add reinker into alcohol but it takes a lot of it to get the same color saturation that you get with purchased alcohol inks. You can put your reinker on the felt dauber ( or cotton ball) and add alchol and get somewhat similar results but again they aren't quite as deep in color. It will get you by until real AI are in your pocket.

Question for Apostolic Pioneer. You mention that Kim Anderson makes her own. I have searched in the members list and did not find her name. would you please give her blog's name so that I can reach her? Thank you

i tried this, honestly, i'd after my experience i think i'll just be buying the ranger inks. i used sand art bottles because they were the cheapest i could find. they leak out of the neck when i use them. i made a huge mess trying to filter them through a coffee filter, and if you're going to do this, use rit dyes, dylon dyes do not work! i have a green ink and a blue ink, which are essentially clear alcohol float on top of blue dye powder.

Her username is Kim Andersen (make sure you spell it "sen"). Her blog is called Art in Redwagons.
This is for MSAVERCOOL and all who want to know:
I PM'd Kim Andersen as I was interested, and she gave me a recipe for making own:
Baby food jar
l pack Rit dye
Rubbing alcohol (I believe the strongest one is 91%)
Put dye in the jar, add alcohol to the top of the jar. shake well.
Hope it helps! Good luck!
By the time you buy the bottle (if you don't have kids), rit dye, alcohol....wouldn't it just be as much to just buy the Ranger ink? Besides they have all the cool earthy colors.

Sorry that I posted twice (at first my post appreared and one minute later it was gone).
Of course, it does not have to be baby food jar; any small 3 ounces or larger jar for that matter, that we would put to the garbage, would do the job. As for the rit dye and rubbing alcohol (which we all have at home), it would not cost much. Anyhow, I think I will give it a try just for fun because here in Quebec, small .5 floz bottle of alcohol ink in worth almost $5.
