Using the Slit Punch
 

Could anyone share with me how they get the measurements correct for using the slit punch to hold another piece of cardstock? I can easily figure out one slit but not the two (one on each side)! TIA:p

Do you have your slit punch marked on the back side on the top center and the punch line with a sharpie? That is the key.

If so you can follow these steps:

1. Center your top layer on the back side of your bottom layer and mark the edges with a pencil.

2. Line up your punch line with the lines you drew on the back of the top layer and punch.

3. Flip the paper over and insert layer.

Your layers are now ready for brads, eyelets, or whatever you choose.

That seems to be my biggest complaint with new tools, or old ones for that matter. You are never told the best way to use them. Most of the time the examples have no directions. I recently bought that punch and now I feel I will be able to use it without destroying tons of paper learning how.

When I was watching the NCAA basketball tournament, there was one gym floor from a game in California that looked like someone took a giant split punch and then folded it over. Where the fold was became the "free throw line" I realize this doesn't make much sense to those of you who don't watch BB but if you look back at the videos you'll know what i mean. Teenage boy cards are so hard to make anyway. IT just goes to show you, inspiration can come from almost anywhere. l0l

You can also make a scallop edge with the slit punch. Just punch and move it over so that the punched edge connects with the new punch, and so on.

You could also make this double sided as well..........

Errr....okay I'm a dunce. <blushes> what is the purpose of having the punches on each side of the paper like that? I thought I was suppose to just slit punch one side and then tuck paper into the slit to keep something closed. Like an envelope. Sumbody 'splain please.

Thanks for the directions and vickiw's hilarious BB court "eye opener." I have had lots of those moments when I get an idea somewhere for a card. Almost embarrassing....almost! DH now is used to me taking a double take on some non-descript thing; he's taking it all in stride now!

Kind of like a corner punch where you can tuck it under, but it's on the side.

I'm still clueless....lol! Are you saying the little half circle punches that the slit punch makes are just like notches so that the gift card could easily be slid out of the holder? Then I get it. I always thought of the slit punch as a notch maker to hold an envelope together and that's why I love this board. So many great ideas!

OKAY! I am challenged in some way... I've tried to visualize this and do it, But I can't figure it out. Say I have an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper... is there a way to make the edge scalloped with the "half circle" protruding OUT rather than "bitten into" if you follow what I mean? I guess if you had a thin strip of paper, you could make the "opposite edge" scalloped...

Does this make ANY sense?
