Using a crimper?

Hi everyone :D I have a question that I hope will not make me look like a total idiot. Anyway, I absolutely love the look of paper that's crimped. I've been trying to recreate the look that I've seen on other's cards, but can't figure out how to crimp only in the middle of the paper. I have a crimper, but I was wondering if there's a special type that I need. Thanks for any help you can give me.

that made me go wow too - but it is really simple. Just slide the paper in as far as you want the crimping to start, THEN squeeze the handles together. Crimp a few times, then release the handles and pull the paper out the back. Practice on scrap to see how far to go in and how many cranks you like.

Hope that helps.

You may have a crimper like mine. It crimps the whole piece with no way to adjust where you start. I went and bought a better one becase I love that look too.

Mine is the Fiscars one, that may be the difference.

Sorry to get your hopes up!

Thanks for your answers. My crimper is a Marvy so I guess I'll need to go and purchase the Friskars. You're right BT, mine doesn't allow me to feed the paper in without crimping - what brand did you get? Thanks Heather, you must have wondered about my lack of common sense! :)

I have the green Marvy Corru-gator. It took awhile for me to figure it out but mine opens, it was hard the first couple of times. Mine opens on the same side the names are printed on. HTH it might save you from buying another one.

Crimpers

I have a dumb crimper question - how do you get the crimper lines to stay straight? I line it up so well to start with and then turn the handle/crank - but the crimp lines come out at a slight angle instead of straight. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. :?

Mine is a Fiskars. I love it. I don't always get it lined up straight either.

My crimper doesn't open either, but what I did to get this look is to fold my cardstock in half and then crimp only about an inch or two in and then back it back out of the crimper. This gives the look of crimping in the middle of the cardstock. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone! I've finally figured out how to open my Marvy crimper - thanks for all the help. :D

If anyone has any tips on getting it straight I'd love to hear them! The only thing I can do is stick it in far enough to come out the other end which makes it easier, but still sometimes it comes out crooked. Which goes well with my card, since I can rarely glue on the back so it's even all around!
