Default Stamping on Canvas Totes

Good Afternoon Ladies.

I would like to stamp the boy & girl from crayon kids on a canvas tote for my sons preschool teachers. There are 14 boys and 4 girls ... so I thought if I scattered 14 boys and 4 girls on the tote ... I could then have each child write their name underneath a boy/girl.

My question is ... can I use our classic pads? Or do I have to use Fabrico or our Craft Pads?

Has anyone done stamping on canvas totes or aprons? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
amy lee

The best results I've had when stamping on canvas has been with iron on transfers. You can purchase the iron on transfer sheets at any office supply store - simply stamp with classic ink, trim, iron on. Just remember any written images will be in reverse-doesn't work. If you want written images, I would recommend computer generate in reverse onto the iron on transfer.

My experience is you must use Craft pads &/or Fabrico pads, & I heat set afterwards. Some say you need to wash the fabric off to get the sizing (sp?) off before you stamp & to use no dryer sheets or softener when you dry...but then your canvas bag is likely to be a wrinkled mess...maybe these bags have no sizing, or it wouldn't matter, because she wouldn't really ever wash it. My problem was I didn't prewash a canvas apron. Of course, I eventually washed it & 3/4 of the Fabrico Ink (before Craft Pads) came off - some stayed on & it just looked trashed.

Great idea! I was just at the Dollar store here in FL and they have a BUNCH of the Crayola iron on transfers in there, I'll go pick up a couple of packs!

When I did Tshirts & pillowcases for a sleepover party (mens Tshirts were their jammies & they used their new pillowcases that night) I followed the rules & we have been washing the same jammies & pillowcases for my 2 girls for over a yr & it still looks GREAT! I was very surprised after the apron incident.

Default Stamping on Totes

Hi, Ladies....
I've been lurking around and enjoying the site for a about a month now....LOVE IT! Thanks for all the great ideas and tips!

As for stamping on totes....I just tried that since I have a local mom that wants me to be the "entertainment" for her daughter's (turning 11) upcoming birthday party. Mom & daughter both want to do tee-shirts.
Well, I've sold all my Fabrico pads since we've come out with our new Craft pads (what a mistake). So, I've been playing and doing research. Tees are definitely out, as the color washes out far too quickly.

I purchased a canvas tote very inexpensively to play with to see if this might be an alternate option. Following the article from our Stampin'Success a couple of months ago....I stamped with the Craft ink, holding firmly in place for approximately 10 seconds per stamp. I needed to use a positioner for this because then I re-inked and stamped directly over the first image holding firmly in place another 10 seconds. When the bag was completed, I immediately ironed it...also as per SS instructions. The bag did come out very cute, BUT this is definitely NOT a birthday party project...too tedious!....and the colors slightly changed when heat was used. I used a dry iron and moved my iron for about 30 seconds over the image. Since this is an item that is unlikely to be washed, it's probably ok, but I have no idea if the colors are "permanent." SS did say that even when following this procedure the ink colors would be no longer be as intense after washing. You know, I do love the new Craft pads, but I sure miss the Fabricos!

There is supposed to be a way to stamp on iron ons and then transfer to your cloth item...but I really don't know what ink to use and I just never seem to have luck with iron ons. Good luck with your project! Hope you'll share when done.
