The background is done by swirling or drizzling rubber cement (Just as if you were dripping icing off a spoon onto baked goods.) on US White cardstock, letting it dry, brayering or sponging on a light color, adding more rubber cement, allowing this to dry, then brayering or sponging on a darker color. When you've done this as many times as you like, just rub off the rubber cement with your fingers or a special eraser, exposing all the underlying colors. It's then ready to use. You can also use the brush that comes in the bottle of rubber cement to brush it on to your cardstock for another neat effect.
I have a few examples of this technique in my gallery, and you can also do a gallery search for "rubber cement" to find examples.
Have fun!

Can yo give me an idea of approx how long it takes each coat of the rubber cement to dry before you brayer over and/or peel off? TX!

I didn't really time it the last time I did it, but it didn't seem to take very long to dry between coats. It should be okay to sponge or brayer over when it's no longer sticky to the touch.

I saw one of the cards the other day using this technique and bought a bottle at Hobby Lobby this weekend. Can't wait to try this! JA

Default Well

I know this is kind of old, but I've been doing this technique lately and love it. For one ~ WalMart has rubber cement for $1.30 a bottle so you can stock up and have a blast. For two ~ it brings back memories of childhood so I'm loving it.

I know I let my paper dry a while to make sure the paper wouldn't come up. I was anxious with the first one and didn't wait long enough. From there on out I waited at least an hour or more (but I live in humid conditions) before pealing. I found if I didn't wait, the paper would come up with the rubber cement. If you have a SU two step color chart, you can make some great paper. Their combinations work lovely.

I tried this last night...and LOVED it. However, sitting at work today, a co-worker asked about bruise on my forearm...ashamed to say, it was smudge of "Orchid Oppulence" ink. LOL....LOL... what can I say...I am obsessed
