Default embossing on glass bottles

I have a question....I've tried this but kept messing up. I stamped my stamp in versa mark but how do you stamp it on the glass to emboss if the bottle is round? It keeps smearing for me. I have small glass bottles ( like the ones used for ships in a bottle, but smaller) I'm thinking of different ways to make something with them...anyone have any ideas?

Painting glassware and barware (wine glasses, in particular) is a very popular trend in crafting. There's a large display in our local Michaels.

I have been using Pebeo Vitrea 160, which is manufactured by a french company and marketed here. They also make a porcelain paint for dishes.

Why am I using this paint? It is made for glass, and is dishwasher safe after the glass has been heated in the oven at 325 degrees F. (which is 160 C.)

I made wineglasses yesterday for a family birthday - the stem of the glass was the tree trunk, the bottom of the glass had my DH parent's names and the date, and up in the bowl of the glass were every family member's name and leaves. It was a family tree glass. Isn't that great?

Anyway, everybody loved their glass and took one home. Thank goodness Pier One is having a big sale on glasses, so they were cheap.

For inspiration of what might be possible, here is the website of a lady who is in the Tampa area that makes custom hand painted glassware. She sure inspired me!

Of course, my glass used SU! leaves and acorns!

Just checked that website out. Neat ideas. Might have to try something for my cousins wedding.

Oh! The question is how do you stamp on a curved surface (after you have mounted the stamp to the wood and it won't bend)?

Answer: you don't. So what to do?

Stamp your image to a piece of paper, tape it to the inside of the glass, and paint the image with glass paint on outside of glass using image pressed against glass as a guide.

What I do is ink up my stamp. Place the center of the stamp where you want it and "rock" the stamp one way then the other. If you dont have a steady hand ink up your stamp and lay it down ink side up and roll the glass on the stamp.

If you are embossing, can the glass be used and then washed or is it simply for decoration?
