I've got a baby shower coming up for a friend and I'd like to put the baby's name on 30 votive candles. I like the sizzix decorative strips die letters but it's pretty fiddly working with the skinny fragile paper letters. Do you expert crafters have some ideas to get 'er done in this case?
Thanks! Celeste
I've never used it for candles, but the Xyron sticker maker is my go-to for those types of cut-outs for scrapbooking and cardmaking!! Depending on the size of your candles, you could adhere the letters to a belly-band kind of thing and wrap that around the candle...
Celeste.....Any of the Xyron machines will work just fine on your votive candle holders (not on the actual candle itself). I haven't found anything that Xyron won't stick to. I use it all the time.
It's very easy to run the letters through the machine. Just press them on the backer packer paper very well before removing. That way you avoid a lot of the stringy adhesive around the edges of your letters on your project. After adhering to your project just rub your finger around the edge of each letter to pick up any excess adhesive.
You might also want to check into using papers that are already self adhesive. I know that DCWV has a mat pack that is self-adhesive. You could easily cut the letters and then just stick them on.
OK i know this might not be what you are looking for, but I'm not sure things will stick to a candle. You could try the tissue paper technique if you have an alphabet stamp and melt it into the candle
Another vote for the xyron machine for those little tiny letters or I've just used a glue stick too.
As craftsrlb mentioned, the letters might not hold up on the votive candles. Another suggestion would be to use digital images and print it on tissue paper and heat set on the candles. This would make for a favor that will last for a long time. There are two baby digi sets on Angels Landing (Toys on Wheels and Alphabet Train) you should check out if you decide to go this route. There is also a tutorial in the Techniques forum that tells you how to add images with tissue paper on candles. It is quite easy to color in the images with prismacolor pencils blended with baby oil except you have to be extra careful not to rip the tissue while coloring or blending. Click on my siggy to get to the Angels Landing website.
Since the candles are round and tube like, why not just make a small wrap to sit at the bottom of each candle.
If the candles are 10cm tall you could make it 5cm wide, and sit it half way round the candle, that way you can make the design flat, add all the letters and let it dry, the just use tape to wrap it round the candle.
Don't forget to measure the candle, so you know how much room you need to stop decorating the design at.
Also just though of this one....
Add the letters to pins by simply dipping the head in glue then pick up your letter making sure it is upside down.
You could then just push these into the candles, much less hastle...

I have a xyron 900 and I run the sheet of paper through that first & then through the sizzix. Makes any small item easy to stick.
the other thing I have used for small items is the quickie glue pen, it is so fine, doesn't make a mess at all.
