Help with purses made from juice pouches

Hi Ladies,
I saw these really cute purses made from juice pouches last summer and I want to make one for my niece. I have the pouches cleaned and ready to go. I do lots of sewing but only on cotton fabric. I am wondering if I need special needles, thread or anything else different for sewing the pouches. I have directions from the internet but it doesn't mention changing anything on the machine before you start.

Any ideas??

I had this, where it came from, I have no idea. It said to use invisible thread. Hope this helps.
