Can anyone tell me what the "rocking" technique is?

I can't find anything in the forums about it. Do you have an example in the gallery? Maybe that's not what it's traditionally called?

I am not even sure what you are talking about but if it is a technique I would like to learn it. I posted to your thread to get it back on the main page of the forum so that maybe someone will see it that can help.

The only thing that comes to mind was what new stampers are taught not to do. When you are stamping, you don't want to rock your stamp back and forth because you won't get a clear, consistent image.

With that said, that might be the technique, rock your stamp on purpose to get a blurred image. Sort of like MOP or distressed paper.

At Regionals last month, they talked about stamping your image in the same place several times to add depth. That's second generation stamping but in the same place. Don't even try to get it exactly in the same place because that defeats the purpose of creating depth.

A lot of techniques are born from mistakes!

Could it be rocking the stamp on the ink pad to get just an outline? I've done that with Little Shapes, The Shape of Things, and Paint Prints.

If this is what you're asking about, Kim Wilson has it in her gallery ...
You ink a stamp in a lighter color and then roll the edges in a darker color for contrast ... Kim stamped a leaf in orange and then rolled the edges in green.

Sorry it took so long to respond ... my boss actually expects me to take care of company business while they're paying me ... go figure!! :-)

The link is to one of Kim Wilson's uploads. As far as know everyone has access to the Gallery. If you still can't use the link, just go the Gallery, click on member galleries. Find Kim Wilson's gallery and this is on the 2nd page of her gallery ... for now ...

Hope you can get to it ... she uploaded all of her technique book pages and it's been a huge help for me..
