Default Stamping on glass

I have some baby jars I would like to decorate. Does anyone have suggestions for stamping on glass. Is it possible? Do I use special ink? If this subject has been covered, I apologize. I wasnt able to find it. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest using Stazon. You could probably get away with using craft ink but it may not dry as well and would definitely take a little longer. Good luck! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I like to stamp all different size labels, put them on jars, tie ribbon around the neck and add candy or other small gifts inside. Cute gifts.

You can emboss on glass, either with craft ink/clear powder or versamark and colored powder. Turns out really cute. Takes a bit longer for the powder to melt on glass......

I stamp on glass a LOT and I always use Staz-on. Also, the best part is that you can wipe it off if it doesn't stamp right the first time. Just work quickly - spray with the stamp cleaner and wipe with a kleenex.

happy stamping!

Whenever I try it, as I'm kinda rolling my stamp around the jar, it slides and I don't get a crisp image. Are there any tricks for getting the stamp no to slip? And how long does it take before the staz-on dries?

Thanks

I use stazon if there is a color I like for the project. If not, I use craft /pigment ink with EP. Rolling the stamp on the jar is tricky and I am far from mastering it in my 6 years of stamping. I am generally a "stamp and go" person, so I don't have the patience to play with it too long. I stick to flat glass items because of it! I found clear square glass ornaments at Michaels last week on sale and I cleared them out. I had never seen those before!

I also like to stamp on tissue paper and then decoupage it to the glass, I just love the way it looks

I would definately suggest using Stazon. Glass and stamping does have a tendency to slip or move, however, rather than putting the stamp to the glass I have found that if I lay my stamp down, face up, and then put the glass to the stamp, rolling (if round jar, etc) to get image - that works the best for me!!

Best wishes and be sure to upload your completed projects!!!! lila

When I stamp on glass with stazon I seal my images with Crystal Effects. I found out through trial and error that if I washed the glass the stazon came off. Someone suggested that I seal it with Crstal Effects and it worked. Just put 1 or 2 small drops on top of each image and use a paintbrush to spread it over the entire area and a little bit beyond the edge of the image. You can sprinkle a little bit of Dazzling Diamonds on top of you wish. Let it dry and then your glass holder can be washed without having the stazon come off.

Default Some addtl questions

When stamping on glass, with or without embossing powder, can the glass still be used for food?

I was thinking of stamping a set of decorative glasses for a friend... But if you can't drink out of them, then maybe I'll do something else.

TIA

before stamping or painting on glass you should wash with white vinegar. this will remove any oils from your hands and other soaps. Staz-on is your best bet. and rolling the jar over the stamp is the best method. A simple spray on clear acrylic can be used to seal.
as for food usage. only the area not stamped can be used for food. for example, you would decorate the bottom of a plate, not the usable surface. and the outside of the glass, below the lip line. but is better to be just a decorative item. all color applied to glass can wash off if not properly attended to.
good luck!!!

I just watched a Carol Duvall Show, Episode CDS-1525 Etched Glass Cake Dish, where they used a soft towel , placed on the counter, then place your inked stamp on it , stamp side up, then you place your glass item on the stamp , as you press you can see how well you're item is being imprinted. I checked the site, but it didn't show that neat trick...but I watched how easy it was...she had candlesticks (which are curved) with the same stamp imprinted on them also...worth a try...good luck.. pa stamper

These are great ideas! Can't wait to try these. I've been wanting to do candles for a long time, but I really like the idea of stamping on tissue paper and using decoupage to adhere it to the glass! Do you think that would be alright for votive holders? Could a person burn a candle without it getting too hot and melting the image?

You can also draw on your glass jars with sharpie or DECO pens. You can find the deco pens at the artist aisle at M's.

Worked great for me. I've burned votives inside a votive cup and tealights in this one

I used Stazon for a martini glasses and was advised to use Pebeo Glass medium to seal it. I avoided the "lip" area and they turned out cute and hand wash beautifully. One of the glasses is posted to my webshots gallery--non-card items. I'll try to post it to my SCS gallery soon. The photo doesn't do it justice.

Default Decoupage with vellum?

Would it work to use vellum instead of tissue paper, then decoupage it to the glass?
