Target Notebook

I am trying to make the covered target notebooks as gifts for my coworkers, but I am having a problem with the paper buckling when I add the top coat of modge podge. Has anyone made these and had this problem? How can a stop it from happening? I have tried adding the top coat when the bottom is wet and dry and still happens. What am I doing wrong?

Because Modge Podge is a very wet medium it is pretty hard to avoid buckling. Have you thoughtof using clear contact paper (available at Target, Walmart, hardware store, etc) gives you a lamenated look at a fraction of the price. Best if you have an extra set of hands to help until you get the hag of it, especially at the end of the roll ;) Otherwise, depending on size and what you are willing to pay you can use other mediums. Why do you feel the need to gel over them? Paper has such a nice texture and if it is a notebook it will have a limited life anyhow. Let them just enjoy the quality paper you are working with.

Best to you,

I don't put a top coat. I only put one coat on the book, apply the paper and smooth down, careful not to get it on the paper side showing. I don't care for the brush stroke look of the Modge Podge on top.

Hope this helps.

I use a permanent glue stick when covering notebooks, etc. Seems to work great! I've just tried mod podge for the first time on a lunchbox tin and just about ruined it due to the paper getting too moist. The paper did seem to lay down a little bit once the mod podge was completely dry but I don't think I'll be using it very often. Try the glue stick. Good Luck!

I'm not a fan of mod podge. When I cover notebooks, I use double sided tape on the cover cardstocks and sticky tape for the binding. That seems to work best for me.

There is a product called "Yes Paste" which will work well in

this project. I apply this product using an old gift card when I cover chipboard to make a book, etc. It will not buckle your paper. This product can be used on paper, leather, cloth, tin, wood, imitation leather, glass, metal, printed surfaces and more. You can purchase this product from TAC (The Angle Company).

I have not used Modge Podge on my notebooks. I have about 60 of those Target notebooks. There's a a few in my gallery...

What I've discovered with MP is that your cardstock has to be pretty thick for it not to buckle. That's kind of a bummer since it's so much nicer to use DP on notebooks which more than likely has a thinner consistency. I heard that the double sided tape is best although I haven't tried it yet. Good luck with your altering!

What are the Target notebooks. I'm sure they are a notebook, but what do you do with them. Can someone post a picture?

The Target notebooks are just the black/white composition notebooks that you can find at Target, Walmart, Kmart, Staples, etc. type stores. You can generally find a great buy on these notebooks when the stores have the back to school specials.
Here's a link to some of the altered notebooks:
