Default poppin pastels

I saw this technique and thought I would try it myself. I stamped my image on black paper with versa mark. I then used my chalks to fill in the image. It did not work. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

from what I have read if you are going to do this on colored cardstock, especially black, you have to use the white craft ink and not versamark...hope this helps!!

I always do it on USwhite CS... never heard of it on black- but maybe that's something new I'm missing?

When I've done this technique, I've stamped with Versamark on white paper, and then rubbed the pastels over the ink. The color sticks to the Versamark and is brighter than the pastels over the plain paper. HTH!

Thanks for your help. I will try it with the craft white. I had seen a card done in one of the galleries using black and thought it looked great. Again thanks for all your help.

Also, when using either versamark on white or light CS, or craft white on dark CS - make sure the ink is a bit dry before spreading the pastels or they will goo up. HTH!

When I tried this on black CS with white craft ink, I waited just a bit for the ink to dry some...and the tip I got was (from CrabbyAbby?) to make use a cotton ball in a dabbing motion instead of rubbing motion and to make sure it was well chalked. I used some of the bold brights chalks and it turned out looking like neon!

When doing the poppin pastels technique on dark (esp. black) CS you HAVE to use the white craft pad so that there is a light enough base for the pastels to stick to otherwise you won't be able to see them. I've done 3 cards so far like that - they're in my member gallery as well as under their corresponding stamp set galleries. I've named the technique doing poppin pastels on black the chalkboard technique. That's what it looks like! Sadly I can't take all the credit for this new thing - I got the idea off another site from someone else's card. Oh well. Just meke sure to take your time when doing the chalkboard technique b/c it can get messy. HTH
