Sweetened Condensed Milk?

If you recieve Rubber Stamper Magazine, you may have seen our Stipple Butterfly on the cover. The background was done with sweetened condensed milk. Yes, you read it right. Who thinks of these things??
Just put a light coat of milk on glossy or regular CS with a stipple brush or porous sponge. You do not want an even coat. Then heat with your heatgut until it carmelizes and turns shades of gold and brown. It really does work and it's not sticky like I thought it might be. Makes a really different background but your colors are limited to the gold and brown.

Just gotta ask... wouldn't this smell bad?? And, wouldn't it go rancid after a while?? I agree with you though - Who comes up with these things

I think I would rather use the Heated Pearls technique!!

LOL...That was exactly what was going through my head when I first read it too! Yucky stinky rancid milk! Just reminds me of baby bottles! LOL. It was a beautiful looking card though. I just hadn't gotten around to read about it yet!

I saw that too and thought the same thing! ROFL. I mean about who comes up with these ideas? I guess Kathy Skinner would as she seems to have a lot of wonderful ideas obviously. I wasn't going to respond, but I was thinking about the milk and it being rancid and stinking, but I don't think it would. You know when you cook with it there has never been an odor that I can recall. And I'm guessing that it's so hard that it's not going to become rancid. Kind of like solid sugar? I want to try this just to find out now.

re: condensed milk

Smell may not be the problem, would'nt ants and other bugs be crawling over it?

Ragtop 05-10-2003 03:53 PM

I made this card at a stamp camp...

My upline had a stamp camp where we made this card. I did it twice because I put too much milk on the first one and the heat gun spreads the milk. The card is very nice and I haven't had any problems with smell or bugs.

SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK

FINALLY, A POSITIVE REACTION FROM SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY TRIED THIS TECHNIQUE. I WAS REALLY GETTING UPSET HEARING NOTHING BUT NEGITIVE REACTIONS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAD NOT EVEN TRIED THIS. IF IT DID GET RANCID OR ATTRACT ANTS, I CERTAINLY WHOULD HAVE PASSED THAT ON. THANK YOU RAGTOP.
