Do you watch YouTube? If you get a ScannCut there are a lot of great videos teaching you how to use SVG's for that machine. Julie has a really good series for the ScannCut- http://www.balzerdesigns.typepad.com/ She is a Brother rep. I do highly recommend her because she will help you answer the questions you have for your machine.

All machines from Cricut to Brother will handle SVG's differently for their unique software programs. ScannCut you will use their offline software or their cloud based software to work with SVG's.

I hope that helps. You can't use Cricut Create unless you have a version of SCAL or MTC before the old ProvoCraft banned using those programs. You can use SVG's with the new Cricut Explore and Maker line.

I know this is confusing. SVG's are very easy to learn once you learn your program with your machine. Then it will become secondary nature.

I have the old SCAL that works with my Cricut. Is it easy to get an svg file opened?

Yes, SVG's are very, very easy to open in SCAL. I started with SCAL and my old Cricut's first. I have fond memories of SCAL. I switched to MTC because I needed the cutter support at the time for my other cutters. SCAL is easy to use. There are videos on YouTube to help you work with SVG's. Best thing about SCAL and SVG's are layers.

Congrats on your ScannCut 2. I love mine so much. I have had several cutter's over the years. I know it sounds like bragging but I am not. I have a lot of expertise with die cutters and I am advanced user. I can say hands down in the close to twenty years I have been working with electronic cutters the ScannCut is my favorite. It was the one I kept making excuses not to buy and now I am kicking myself for waiting so long. :) That machine is magic. I am always surprised the things I can do with it. I don't hype machines. I am kind of known to be critical of die cutting machines. She's my favorite crafting tool right now.
