Stamping on Scarves ?

I have been looking for some ideas on Christmas gifts to make for my Mom and Mother-in-law and have found some gorgeous stamped scarves that I want to try. My question is for those who have done these, what size scarf did you use? I have found a site that sells them, but don't know if I should go with 8"x54" or 11"x60"? I don't wear them myself, and am terrible at estimating sizes of things without actually seeing them. I'd sure apperciate some input from those who do:)

I did 8x54 size scarves. I don't know why, probably because that is what I found the most of in the gallery. I bought through the Dharma Trading Co. At least I think that's their name, you'll know for sure when you find them, they have all types of fabrics and dyes. I liked Habotai silk the best, but I did a couple Crepe de Chine too. They were not as soft as the Habotai.

I used SU Craft ink and heats et it with an iron. I did one scarf with Classic, Craft and Stazon to compare. The SU Craft ink was the only one that didn't bleed and held the image well. It was the only one that did not come out l in the wash as well. I don't think anyone would wash them, but they might sweat ot get stuck in rain, etc...

Thank you - the 8x54 is what I was leaning towards, but wanted to make sure that was a good size. I am planning on ordering the Habotoi from Dharma trading as well. I can't wait to try some of these!

I've been really happy with the 8x54 Habotai scarves, too. I made this leaf scarf with Versamagic inks, and it turned out very nicely (sponged on the yellow after I stamped the leaves). Good luck!!

Check out this great batik stamped scarf tutorial that Dorinda did recently on her blog:
