Ok, I know the catty's not "official" yet and there are still some demos waiting for their complimentary copy. If you are one of the waiting I hope you receive your catty soon...

For those who have their new catty, I need a little help. I've been looking through mine about 10 times a day and enjoying all the beautiful samples. Samples I'd like to recreate. However...

"Refuge and Strength" on page 45 has a beautiful sample. The cross is Bayou blue with the small leaf stamp all over the cross...HOW DID THEY DO THAT!?!?! If you have this set maybe you could try it for me and give me some feedback. My first thought was that they stamped the cross in blue and stamped over it (masking the area around the cross??) with vanilla craft ink. My other thought was that they did emboss resist...but does that work with a stamp over it? Maybe they embossed the leaves in clear and stamped over it with the blue cross and then cut it out?

I'm really dying to know how they did this sample. I liked this set in the current catalog and am almost certainly going to get it in 2008.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated. if you are able to figure it out, could you post your results in the gallery???

On page 200 #45A are the major components they used to make the card, I think they may have left VersaMark off the list or else Very Vanilla Craft ink (Make sure the craft ink dry before the next step)which looks like the leaves are stamped onto Natural Vanilla Paper then the cross is inked with Blue Bayou and stamped over the resist areas. You will then have to wipe off the resist areas with a napkin then your vanilla will show through.

Another option is to stamp over the top of blue bayou paper and use a sponge to "Dust" the edges of the paper. Not as much upsell, but really nice for new stampers to get a comparative result.

I think they KISSed to make that card. They inked the cross in blue bayou and then kissed it with the small leaf several times, which removed the color in those places. Then they stamped on ivory. Pretty terrific results!
I don't have the set so I can't try it, but I will watch this thread maybe somebody else can let us know for sure.

I have just tried it with a similar stamp I already have, I clear embossed the flowers then stamped the cross over the top, then polished back and cut around, not sure thats how they did it, but looks the same

I've seen a similar thing done by my demo that might produce this effect. She inks up a background stamp, then presses the solid stamp (in this case the cross) onto the background stamp. This means that the background stamp pattern is now on the cross stamp in ink. You then stamp the paper with the cross and it transfers the background design in the solid shape.

So the background image transfers to the cross stamp, then to the paper.

Does that make sense??

That's what I've assumed. It's how I would do it, anyway. :)

Thanks, all, for your help. Somehow it never occurred to me to try this with another set...duh!! Some demo I am, huh? LOL

Anyway, I tried emboss resist, kissing and stamping over with craft ink and I still can't decide. Kissing doesn't give as clear an image as the craft ink and emboss resist, so I don't think that's it. Both craft and emboss look good. I guess it depends upon which technique I want to teach, huh? :)

Maybe I'll post on the stampin' up! forums for the official verdict. If I do, I'll definitely post the results here.
