Default Black Magic technique

I've been browsing through the gallery and have came across several absolutely beautiful cards that use a Black Magic technique. I am pretty new at this and am curious as to what this is. Can anyone explain it to me or post a link to show me how to do this? Thanks so much!!

Default 3 examples

I emboss with cuttlebug embossing folders and then take sand paper to it. That will bring out the core color.
