I want to try making the fruit can treats for Valentines. I've cut the bottom off the can but don't think I'll be able to re-attach it. Even with crystal effects. It's almost as if the bottom is too small for the can. Did I cut it wrong? Any tips??
Did you open it with a safety can opener? A regular one won't work.
No, because I thought the safety can opener only prevented sharp edges. My regular one didn't leave sharp edges so I thought it would be OK. So, the safety opener makes the bottom fit more snugly?
Did you use the safety-type can opener? It cuts along the outside ridge as opposed to just cutting the bottom out of the can. I have this project "in the works" -- still collecting enough cans!
I saw one sample where someone used a circle cutter, and just cut cardstock to fit the bottom -- just a hair bigger than the bottom of the can. Then I would imagine you could use tacky glue or whatever to attach the CS to the can.
When you use a punch through the top can opener, the can expands when that circle is removed. When you use a safety can opener they cut the side and the whole bottom lifts off. You can then seal it back on by using crazy glue or CE or something along those line.
Hi,
I made about a dozen of these for my daughter's birthday party. I saved the cans and lids all mixed up in a bag for a couple of weeks. Well, aparently there's some variation in the cans and lids because they weren't matching up great. LOTS of glue solved the problem, but I recommend if you're doing several to keep the cans matched up with the original lids.
