How is this card made? I'm asking here rather than the person that posted it because it says author unknown. I have been sitting at my table for about 2 hours trying to make my sky look like this and I can always see the brayer marks. And then it doesn't blend like this. So can anyone please tell me how to do it?????
Yes, I am using glossy paper.... I stamped my stamps and then embossed them to resist the brayer. It just seems like the brayer is smaller than my glossy paper and doesn't cover it in one swipe. Then it leaves - I guess I would call it - creases.... This picture just looks soooo smooth. The only way mine looks smooth is if I cross my eyes! :oops:
You're on the right track! It's made with a brayer, GLOSSY card stock (very important), and a Spectrum ink pad. When you run your brayer over the pad, do it over and over again, and don't push the separate ink pads tgether. (This will keep the pads from picking up color from one another.) Then, when you run the brayer on the glossy card stock, again, run it over and over again. The brayer marks will melt away as you run it back and forth. Then, stamp over the top in black.

It still didn't work. Wow, I didn't think there was something that would stump me this much. I used Pumpkin Patch and ended up with green at the bottom. I tried using just the other colors and it made it look worse. Then I tried using Blue Frost thinking - all blues, no problems - well I was wrong. This is just one thing that I will accept I cannot do. I'm all inked up, gone through who knows how much glossy cardstock, and tired. Maybe I will try one more time this weekend. If you hear a scream, it's just me!
I think its brayer on glossy, either a kaleidacolor pad or big and juicy. then the trees and bear stamped with black permanent ink. The brayering should only be in one direction...I think its to keep it with the color variation more even.
The other way it could be done is using small brayers about the size of the longest side of an ink pad...brayer the lightest color first, then brayer the darker orange next. Maybe?
Here's my .02 on the brayer/kaleidacolor/glossy thing...I push my pad together before running the brayer over it. Most people say not to do this, but I find I get less "lines" in the inked cardstock this way. I'm careful about inking my brayer so as not to muddy my pad. Then when running the brayer over the glossy cardstock I run it back and forth many times very very quickly. This is key to getting the colors to blend smoothly. I've shown several cutomers how to do this always with good results. I've never used the pumpkin patch pad, but I would think it would look cool with the green at the bottom.
Jami, I've never hear of using the multi pads not closed...I think they would be really hard to ink the whole brayer. I've used mine closed and haven't had too bad a problem. If I find the colors have run I clean with a cloth.
Grace - so glad to meet another rebel. I was shocked :shock: when I saw in the little techniques booklet that it said to ink your brayer with the pads apart. Since then I've heard lots of people say that. But it doesn't work as well for me, so (for once in my life) I don't follow the directions. :lol: :lol:
Jami, well I like to do Stampscapes and I like to brayer a lot so its just easier to put them together...I would get frustrated if the colors were not even.
Here, here! I keep mine together without a problem....I think I'm crazy. It's 1:26 pm and my baby finally fell asleep. I gotta get to bed. Have fun all you night owls!

If you're having trouble with getting the brayering to look right, maybe you should try to achieve the look with sponging instead. I just apply the sponge in a circular, rubbing motion. You get a very blended look that way.

I find not only in the inking, but in the rolling is the technique. I 'roll & lift' so that the brayer kinda spins in the air.....then you are not using the same spot on the brayer over and over. Also, when I demo it, I tell them to really get their frustrations out by quickly going over it many times.
I heard once that if you dampen your brayer a bit, the colors will go on more smoothly. I also have a problem when I brayer getting lines in it. It's not the lines from the ink pad, but lines from the actual brayer - like it has flat spots or something that don't get inked. I don't know - hard to describe.
I've tried this technique too and am never happy with my results due to the little lines I get. Hmm...very interesting! Now I'll have to get my brayer out and try again. But AFTER another cup of coffee!

This pad looks like the Kaleidescope Desert Heat one. I used it for my Halloween cards.
I have never tried a wet brayer, sounds interesting! I've never gotten fancy and tried the string on it, bubble wrap, etc. Too many toys, not enough time!
I have no problem using the Kaleidocolor pads with the pads slid apart when brayering. To get rid of the "lines" or streaks, I just keep rollin' it until it's gone.
Maybe I should be more rebellious and cram 'em together and see what the end result is....;)

I would love to try this technique but no one has mentioned which brayer to use. The acrilyc or the rubber? One other member did mention she uses the foam.
I just made a card using this sort of techniqe a couple of weeks ago. i was making a technique book at my uplines. She told me this....the important thing is to get it inked up (apart or together, whichever you like best) and go back and forth very quickly. But always lift it up and when you put it back down move it slightly to the left and then next time slightly to the right and that helps it blend together better. It worked. I've always had a hard time and when I did my second time using this technique I loved it. I will have to take my book apart and post it. I will try to add the link later today.

Ditto! That's exactly what I do, too.
Double ditto, here. Can't seem to get rid of the lines with it open. Besides if they were to stay apart, why is the pad made so they can slide together? :?
One more hint: store your brayer upside down, resting on the handle with the rubber up in the air. That way you won't get pressure lines on the rubber.
Hi Robin- You really have to keep rollong the brayer back and forth over the glossy paper MANY times til the color "lines" are blurred and all blended together. Sometimes I roll 15+ times (on one inking), and not in a straight line either, let the brayer travel up and down on the paper a bit. Hope this helps!

I want to thank you all for your inputs on this technique. I am going to give it another shot today. If it doesn't work for me, I will use my brayer as my new dough roller. Ha (just kidding). If I get anything to work for me today, I'll post a picture!

Before I had a Spectrum pad, I would put 2 Classic Ink pads next to each other on my desk and run the brayer over them and ink it up well. There was a "dead" spot with no ink on it, however, if I did what everyone is talking about and ran it back and forth many times and never in a straight line, kind of blending the colors, I would get this effect. Works well if you need to "cheat." lol.

I have to give my $0.02, too. Maybe this person made a "custom" spectrum pad, using 2 of the pads for summer sun, 2 for only orange & 1 for ruby red. Just my thoughts on how she eliminated the green.....

I NEVER thought of that! But the more and more I think about it and look at all my spectrum pads - that makes perfect sense!
