Soot Stamping??
 

Hi!! I love those soot stamping cards in the gallery!! but where and how do I find out how to do "soot stamping"??

I don't know if the directions are on this site yet or not - here's my version. The soot technique is basically "catching" soot from a candle on cardstock.

1. Choose a candle that produces a lot of smoke (some claim to be smokeless candles - you don't want one of these for this technique).

2. You need to use glossy paper. I only use a quarter to 1/2 sheet at a time.

3. Light the candle and turn you paper so that the glossy side is facing the lite candle. Move your paper over the flame and "catch" the soot on the cardstock.
*** Make sure you MOVE your cardstock over the flame, if you leave it in one place for too long you'll catch the CS on fire!

5. You'll need to seal the cardstock once you have the amount of soot that you want. I use hairspray to seal mine (I can't use aersol cans).

Before you seal the CS you can do a reverse stamp - ink your stamp with versamark and stamp the image on the soot - the versamark will "remove" the soot from that area that you stamp, leaving the stamped image white. I've also done polished stone on the cardstock before I did the soot to give a little more color to the image. I also seen where people have done a Joseph's coat effect under the soot.
