smooch inks
 

I have all the colors of the Smooch Inks from Clearsnap and I keep seeing in ads that they are great for making backgrounds. Does anyone know how you would make a background with these? They seem to dry so quickly, I don't know how you would get the ink to move around on the paper. I even tried glossy paper and a brayer and it still dried too quickly that all I got were "lines" of ink. It's driving me crazy 'cause I can't figure out how it's done!

I use smooch inks for backgrounds. In a small tray put a little water and touch the surface with smooch inks. 2 colours are usually all you need. The colour will float on the surface then you can drop in your cardstock and you will have a marbelled effect. Hope that helps

I saw a demo recently and the lady spritzed cardstock and then wet a sponge and dabbed the inks onto the sponge. She then dragged or dabbed the sponge over the wet card. It looked fab.

I saw one where a lady put some of the smooch ink on an acrylic block, wet a paint brush & then dragged the paint brush through the smooch ink & painted from there. I think I saw it on Youtube.

Do y'all think this would work on those paper mache' ornaments? You know...the kraft brown bag type???

Thanks everyone for the great ideas/techniques! I E-mailed clearsnap and April Thomas kindly shared the technique with me. Here are the instructions she sent: "The best way to extend the drying time of the Smooch ink is to lay down a thin layer of Top Boss Clear Embossing ink on top of the background area then blend the Smooch on top of it. This technique was developed and used by Cathie Allan, who creates incredible backgrounds using the Smooch". I can't wait to give this and some of the other techniques you all shared a try!

I met Cathy Allen at the Canadian Scrapbook Carnival at the beginning of October, and took this class. She is a genious! The TOP BOSS technique makes beautiful backgrounds and makes them super EASY!

To see the Smooch marbleizing in action, you could check out a video on the website of the online store Paper Wishes. I was skeptical until I saw this vid and with my own eyes witnessed how well it works!

I just watched the full Smooth Ink video and loved the gals as much as the ink! Happy people add to the fun and creativity. (These inks remind me of the alcohol inks that disperse beautifully on acetate.) I will be trying this technique with water...so fun.
