Shaker cards
I want to use as many SU products as possible for a shaker card. . .but haven't ever attempted one. So here are my questions:
Would the square punch provide a large enough window for the card? Would the leaf punch, or any other image punch be too large for this size window? Would the new color-family beads be a better choice to provide the shake? Can I use small cello bags instead of the acetate, or should I purchase some window sheets? I'm assuming I would still need to purchase foam mounting tape separate, or are there any suggestions for SU products? Sticky tape? Thanks for any help. . .preparing this for a workshop in August (as a requested project, uugghh). :? Shelley |

There are a TON of them in there, with all shapes/sizes of holes filled with shaky stuff. You can use candy, beads, sand. . you name it! The cello bags are okay, but I think that the window sheets (get transparancies from the office supply store, too) look much more finished. The sticky tape will not be thick enough. Try the scrap rubber or dimensionals. I still prefer the foam mounting tape that you buy on the roll from Scotch. Much easier to cut! |
I have used the square hole punch and would suggest the SU beads for size if it is a small window. Don't forget you can use the punch repeatedly and get a bigger window! That's what I did with this card:
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...cat=500&page=1 Instead of foam tape you can use laong rubber scraps, like from trimming background stamps. Peel off the red rubber and place it down, then it is easy to pull off the paper when you are ready to adhere. It is also easier to cut as my scissors got VERY gummy with foam tape, but seem to do very well with the rubber strips. I also did "faker shaker" cards at a workshop with tiny ziploc bags and the square hole punch. We added coffee and adhered the small bags with mono, but I'm sure the small cellophane bags would work as well. This was an awesome card as a make and take b/c it looked a lot harder to make than it was, and even beginners could do it (we did not do the foam marshmallows at the workshop). http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...cat=500&page=8 I did shaker cards with my downline, and it took quite a while. If you were doing it at a workshop, I would try a faker shaker without the foam tape and mounting unless it is a small group with lots of experience. My gals loved it, and I sold lots of square hole punches. Even though it is hard to see in the scan, the greeting can be seen through the sqaure hole punch, which they thought was awesome. Goodl uck! |
instead of the foam tape.. I recommend fun foam (usually found in the kids craft section) to make your raised frame.. its so easy to cut into any shape.. to cut the middle I use an exacto...and they make it now with the self adhesive on one side and that speeds up the process of sticking everythign together.
I did a workshop doing shaker cards with 60 women (there was 5 demos to assist) and that was definitely an experience! I have done them at stamp camps and with my experienced groups of stampers. Its like with everything else.. the more you practice doing it with a group the better you get! Good Luck! Heather |
And might I add that if you use the foam mounting tape, tap your scissors in Versamark before cutting. I severely gummed up two pair at a workshop where a shaker was the M&T. But, after cleaning them up, I tapped them in the Versamark and the cutting was super easy and clean.

thanks
Thanks for all your suggestions! I'm going to do some trials and see how everything works out!
Thanks again! Shelley |
