Default Xyron machine

Hello,
I have seen several cards using a xyron machine and glitter in this gallery that I would liek to try, but would appreciate any advice you could give about which Xyron machine to get? I did a few internet searches and they come in all sizes and prices? I just need something for doing my cards and crafts...Also, what other accessories are needed? Does it come with the adhesive, or do you purchase separately?
Thank you for your help!

Default Xyron

I own the Xyron 900, bought it from QVC. It's one of the larger machines (You can use a full sheet of paper but how often do you need to adhere a full 8.5x11 piece of paper?). The xyrons use cartridges of adhesives and they have different ones (permanent, repositionable, magnet, etc). Probably one of the 500-series models would be sufficient for cards. I've never tried using it for glitter so I can't comment on that. But I do love mine and couldn't live without it!

I, too, have the Xyron 900 but only because I make a lot of full sized journals and address books for people (with Rollabind). If you're only going to use it for card making and other 5x7ish sizes, then I would go with the Xyron 500.

Once you use it for the first time you'll think of a million more ways to use it. I surprised my brother-in-law with a picture of his son that I Xyroned and put on his truck dashboard (used the laminat/magnet refill). It's so much fun!!

... and yes, it works great with glitter.

I have a 510, and I use it all the time. The cartridges are expensive, though, and there's a lot of waste if you do items one at a time, so I usually stamp a lot of images on a 5" wide piece of US White, send it through the machine, then cut out the images as I need them. I just bought one of the small Xyron 150 sticker makers, and it's my new favorite toy! You can use it to make stickers up to 1 1/2" wide, and you can feed them in one right after another with very little waste.

Default Xyron

I am so glad to see this topic! I was just at the craft store (named like a boy!), and noticed they have Xyrons on sale. I believe the 510 and the 900 are only about $20 apart. I noticed the 510 only goes to 5 inches wide. The 900 goes 9 inches wide. Of course, the cartridges cost more for the 900. For those of you already using Xyron, how do you feel? Is the 510 the one to purchase for our average card-making or scrapping needs? Is there a lot of wasted adhesive when using the 900?

Thanks for sharing your experience & your thoughts!!

I have the 510 and love it. I wait for the refills to go on sale and then check to be sure I have at least two of my favorites (repositionable and permanent) on hand. I would have to say that I am comfortable with the size I have as I have little waste and don't ever remember needing anything larger. I use it for cards, scrapbooks and general craft use. I also have the 510 and like it just as well for smaller things. You can find the refills for it at superstores with craft departments. It is really nice for embellishments and other small items you might be adhering. These really are neat little machines.
