Shaker box frame?
 

I would really like to do a shaker with a square frame. I've tried my CM square punches to make the frame, but it was much smaller than I wanted. Does anyone have a suggestion for what I can do (use) to make the type of frame I'm looking for. I did a search but couldn't find the asdvice I'm looking for. Also, do you find it easy to use your coluzzle? I'm thinking of buying one, but not sure how often I would use it. I do scrapbook and I might get use out of it in that area as well. TIA

Rebecca--here's an easy way to make a frame.
Cut out a 3" square piece of paper, any will do. Than take your punch, center it & punch.

I use the "whale of a punch" that is exactly like the SU square punch. Works perfect every time.
In fact, you can slide your 3" paper in and let it rest at the bottom of the punch, center the sides & Voila!--perfect frame.

I learned that trick at a Scrapbook Expo. HTH

I use my Coluzzle to make the frame for shaker boxes. I really like the selection of sizes you get on one template. I know some people have had troubles using the Coluzzle, but I took to it right away.

You can order templates the same design as the stamps at www.darcie.com. Click on templates and do a search for "shaker pouch". They have several different designs and they are a lot cheaper than the stamps.

don't get the whole shaker box thing. You just fill it with stuff, tape it shut and then adhere it to the card or page? How do you make sure it doesn't come open? And what do you use as the little window??

So I don't have a punch large enough, I can't get that template sized right, I don't have that stamp, so I have just done it the hard way. I guess it's not really that bad. I've just cut the 3 inch square and measured 1/2 inch in and cut that out with the trimmer. Then I used that piece as a template to trace the inside of the other 8 I had to do (yup, I'm doin' this for club:rolleyes: ). I need to get my hands on a large punch though. I think this could have gone soo much faster.

Ktmac- You can fill the "boxes" with just about anything depending on how large you want it. I'm currently using sand and the boy from Summer by the Sea. There are a couple of different products you can use. Foamcore, mounting tape, or even your left over rubber from mounting (though I have a hard time with the rubber sticking any more after peeling). I prefer mounting tape because it is so easy to use. You use acetate for the window. I have had several club members buy the window sheet in the last few months and wanted to see some projects.

The cutting of the frames and the template for the faux postage has driven me postal the last two days. Never again will I do a window sheets theme. Thanks for all your help. I keep telling myself some day I will get a gallery going for all these "labors of love". Oh, well another day. Now, back to cutting paper.

I went to a stamp convention last weekend and bought from a vender from Cleveland that sells stamps that have 2 or 3 different sizes for the templates to make square framed shaker boxes. I played with it a little last night and will try to do some more tonight.

I have the web site but had a hard time accessing it when typing directly into address bar. However, I did a google search typing in the website/ company's name and it it took me right to it.

They also had shaped shaker stamp outlines Flowers nail polish bottle, party hat, Christmas tree, and birthday cupcake. They were absolutely adorable!I bought the flowers and large square template. I will have to post some samples when I can. The image that shows through the window is a little under a 3 inch square. Hope this all helps. Good Luck!

When I do a shaker box card.... I make the opening to compliment the items inside the window.... so lets say I stamp and image and I'm going to put microbeads and punches in it... I decide what shape and size opening looks best with my image and contents and use my trimmer to cut the opening. I do this in much the same manner as a frame shop would mat artwork. Pick the color / shape / size that works best for the image... heck I usually double mat as well.

This way, I let the image determine how the shaker comes out ... instead of having a box and trying to figure out what the heck to put in it. Works for me... I love making them.... I make them for scrapbook titles as well. Its a lot of fun!
