scratch and sniff

Does anyone know the amount of the koolaide and the clear embossing powder when doing this technique???help...I'm trying to do this with cocoa to use with the coffee/cocoa set-like it a latte, thanks;) Debbie.

deelite 04-10-2007 06:31 PM

Debbie I did this a while back with cinnamon. I didn't have any measurements, but just added a little bit, maybe around 1 teaspoon. It worked really well. Still looking through my files to see if I saved anything. GL

I used about 50/50 and then stored it in a tiny bag.

kcollis 04-14-2007 02:54 PM

I did it this Feb with cherry kool aid and EP. I didn't measure, but mixed about 50/50 and kept the remainder in a plastice tupperware container. HTH.

Looks as though there is some debate about sweetened vs. unsweetened to me.

lkryb 04-18-2007 05:03 PM

I did a unsweetened kool-aid scatch 'n sniff a couple years ago in my gallery. I used orange kool-aid and clear embossing powder and loved the results! I used the citrus set and it's cute!

I did a unsweetened kool-aid scatch 'n sniff card a couple years ago in my gallery. I used orange kool-aid and clear embossing powder and loved the results! I used the citrus set and it's cute!

Wow, I guess I never thought about doing a scratch & sniff how cool is that. I'll have to try that. Thanks to everyone for the idea.

sweetist1 04-19-2007 04:19 AM

I have a question...do you use the heat gun on these? I have read everyone's technique about the scratch and sniff but no one has said whether or not you heat it up. I definitely want to try this technique :-)
Can someone let me know please :-)
Thanks

SilverDragoness 04-19-2007 08:25 AM

Yup, I would use the heat gun on the embossing powder/koolaid/whatever mix. That way you will be able to get it to stick to the card and you have a surface to scratch that won't have pieces falling off. :)

sweetist1 04-19-2007 09:48 AM

I thought so, but I didn't want to heat it and find out that I was burning my koolaid right through the card stock, lol
Thanks SilverDragoness!!

mloswego 04-20-2007 05:01 AM

Where are the directions for this technique?
Thanks for the inspiration.

scratch n sniff directions

I'd love to get directions also - sounds like you just mix the kool aid w/ your ep? Anything else I should know?
This sounds so fun. Now I'm dying to use it on my old DD Fabulous fruits set!!
Thanks!

Dawn

Mary and Dawn if you click on the links I posted earlier in this thread you should find the directions. ;)

stampinaddiction 04-21-2007 12:36 PM

I would love to have the directions for this. I tried to open the links that were already posted but I can't get them to open.
I would be greatful for any help.
Thanks

julia_s 04-21-2007 12:39 PM

I experimented with a lot of different things to get it to smell like coffee. The best smell came from Creamy Choc Non-Dairy Creamer, mixed at 60/40 with EP. Of course, someone on this site came up with that!! HTH!!

I also tried clicking on the links and they will not open for me either.

I already sent these to Jeni-- hope this helps!

Technique: Scratch and Sniff

Note:
Never use any additive (Kool Aid, instant coffee, etc) with sugar in it for this technique. The heat from embossing will caramelize the sugar and give the project a burned smell rather than a pleasant whiff of fragrance.

Mix prefered additive 1:1 with clear embossing powder. Using versamark, stamp image, sprinkle mixture on to image, emboss as usual. The card should smell faintly of the additive, and when the embossed part is lightly "scratched", the smell is stronger. Big hit with kids cards!!

Alternative: Use heat and stick powder to prepare a base for undiluted additive (do not mix with embossing powder). Heat until sticky, sprinkle additive on with a paintbrush, heat again for a few seconds to set. Less fragrance with chocolate, fine for kool aid.

Chocolate Scratch and Sniff: For best results, use Chocolate Creamer (do not use hot chocolate mix).

Fruit flavors: use desired flavor of sugar free kool aid.

Coffee: Use a nut mill/grinder on instant coffee granules to make them more fine. You may still have to use UTEE (Ultra thick embossing powder) because of the size of the granules.

Thank you Julia!

SilverDragoness 04-21-2007 04:19 PM

Huh sorry about that didn't realize they weren't working. :(

renaissancegeer 04-22-2007 10:37 AM

Thanks for all the info. I'm definately going to try this!

Scented EP

You know, they make scented embossing powders too. Cornish Heritage Farms sells some, so does gelatins and ladybug. Just figured I'd mention it. I wonder if either attracts bugs?

Skilo 04-30-2007 07:02 AM

Heehee guess what I am doing tonight! Thanks ladies for the instructions!
I found a "scratch and sniff" stamp so this will be perfect!
thanks again!

Christina 04-30-2007 07:24 AM

Thanks for the great directions! I can't wait to try this with my clubs.

hawaiianshells 04-30-2007 08:09 AM

That is such an awesome idea! BIG Kudos to whomever invented it! I must try it! :) I would have never thought to do something like that on my own! MAN alive I love SCS! :D

Scratch and sniff fun

Many thanks to all the helpful stampers in this forum and especially to julia_s for the clear and simple directions on the scratch and sniff technique. When I read these posts I thought it sounded like so much fun that I added it as one of the monthly techniques in our ATC swap!

Come check out our swap and all the great ATCs linked to it:
