Default stampin up markers ON tiles - elusive question!

Hi
I'm doing a tile techniques class this thursday - can i use markers (su) on the tiles bake then seal?

I had a domino that i did use the markers on and sealed - only one looked good and stayed on... the rest faded. I don't want to use sharpies.

Secondly: if i wanted to do a polished stone background could i use craft in instead of classic ink? I would obviously be baking any option i tried at this point - just to be safe.

What is the best sealant to use, available in home depot or walmart or michaels?

any su only suggestion is good (it's a su workshop)

Kerri

ok see it is elusive! I'm baking a polished stone one right now... i used craft ink alcohol and metalic reinkers... so far as a background it's WOW - we'll see how it bakes up before i do another layer...

are tiles passe?

fyi... polished stone is sticky after baking for 15 mins at 400 - then cooled - STICKY - soooo that didn't work. Will retry using classic inks.

metalic ink doesn't seem to dry either - but i'm going to wait til morning to see for sure.

hi there, I have never made the tiles or dominos you mentioned, but I think the classic ink you are referring to is a dye ink and would not be waterproof ever after baking. The sealant you are referring to may just smudge up your ink when you try to seal it. As for the polished stone technique, I think the dye inks work much better on paper. Whereas on tiles or other materials, you may want to try alcohol inks instead.

does su have an alcohol ink recipe solution? classic and alcohol or craft and alcohol?
I created some really really nice tiles last night that
1. the craft ink polished stone technique one never set up - still sticky this am...
2. the metalic ink stamped just brushed off like powder after baking for a long time.

I'm sticking with pure craft ink (painted on with a fine tip paint brush or q tip for coloring in) and pastels.

I am very confused about how the pastels set when heating but the metalic ink didnt.

Oh well... that's my discoveries.

Previous to this - i've only done craft ink baked (stamped not colored in) I guess that's why it is so popular - it works!

As for tiles, I made a ton of these over the years and I've always stamped the image with Jet Black Stazon Ink and heat set with the emobssing gun. Next I color in the image with SU Blender pens and the SU chalks and "seal" with cheap hairspray such as Aquanet. HTH

Default hairspray????

Ok... so does this hairspray have lasting sealing properties if you wash the tiles? I actually did a bunch about 4 years ago with versamark and pastels and a little bit of stayzon. I didn't bake them - I dug them out of my sample drawer last night and lo and behold - these look as great as they did the day i stamped them. I used a baby wipe to wipe them gently and NONE of the color came off... interesting.

Anyway - how durable is your hairspray sealing technique?
