Ribbon Storage
 

Hi,
I've seen pics of ribbon in jars with holes punched in the tops.

Can anyone tell me how they did it? Where did you get the jars? What are the tops made out of? What did you use to punch the holes in the top? How many different ones do you put in each jar?

My scrapbook room will be done soon and I'm trying to get things organized.

I use salad containers from the deli section instead of jars. They hold mre and are easier to cut the top. Just cut an x in the top .:)

I use mason jars for storing smaller pieces of ribbon... I have about 15 of them on a shelf and they are sorted by color. I don't do the hole in the top though.

For ribbons that I have spools of, I made storage boxes out of photo boxes. I drilled holes in the side of the box and added silver grommets (large eyelets). Then you feed the ribbon from the spool through the holes and they store inside the box. If you want me to take a picture I can, just let me know. (PS- I've seen them on ebay for sale instead of making your own too... do a search for ribbon storage box)

ok it may sound strange but I use hangers to store my ribbon. I tried the whole jar thing and it just takes up too much space (my scrap/stamp area is a walk in closet) I needed the shelf space...so I tie the ribon on hangers and just hang them up. I have sooo much ribbon I actually have 3 hangers now in color order. It's really easy to see what you have and pull it closer to your project and just snip off a piece. It's also easy to take with you if you go to crops or whatever. Here's a pic of one of my hangers...

I use the plastic containers that blueberries and strawberries come in. The rolls of ribbon fit perfectly in those and the tops are already cut so it is easy to thread the yarn out. Hope this makes sence.

I found jars at Micheals and hobby lobby...not really mason jars, but have the metal type lids. They have all different sizes. If you have the kind of lid that is two pieces you can use a crop-a-dile and punch holes. (The crop-a-dile will punch thru anything!) On the ones that have plastic lids or one piece metal lids I used my husbands drill, use a really small bit on plastic ones to start the hole with, then use the size you want...called a pilot hole, keeps your lid from cracking...darn husbands are good for something! :)
