Ribbon
I know I've seen this question somewhere but can't locate it. How do yo attatch ribbon to a card when you want it to go all the way across the card or cross a corner?
|
I run my ribbon through my xyron. Another alternative is to use Glue dots. HTH! :-)

if I want to go all the way across, I use a glue stick or dbl stick tape. you can also use crystal effects/diamond glaze.

I've never been able to get glue sticks to hold the ribbon. Double side tape i haven't tried though. Maybe that would work. :)

Sorry, I haven't heard of a xyron. What is it? I've been out of the loop for a bit. I went through a painful divorce about 2 1/2 years ago.

I just run a little SNAIL across it. It's the perfect width for grosgrain.
And, mustardseed, "je ne parle pas francais" but a Xyron is a machine that can make stickers out of whatever. They have them in all different sizes. The small ones are $10 or so (really small). You can do a search on the internet and find some pics and better descriptions. |
Thanks for the quick reply. It's okay I barely "parle france" myself. ;-) Your in Maine aren't you??? We drove through there this summer on our way back from taking my son to NYC to fly back to Colorado with my X. I fell in love with it!!!

In case you have no snail or xyron, you could knot the end of the ribbon for a decorative look. This works really well for the sheer ribbon types. (Popular in Victorian times, the florists made the bridal bouquets with an abundance of ribbon, tying a knot in the ends of every ribbon. With each knot they would say aloud, "Good luck to the happy couple." This technique is a great-and an authentic look- used on Heritage pages.) Hope this helps as another option. :)

Oh, that sounds wonderful!! It sounds so pretty and the story that you shared to go with it is so touching. Thank you!!

I must clarify that not all glue sticks and double-sided tapes are made the same. admittedly, most are pretty crappy. (there are tons of threads on the evils of glue sticks!) I use Scotch brand (3M) for both after getting burned using cheaper versions. in particular, the purple-tinted glue stick and the yellow plaid box tape. snail is great when your ribbon is lightweight but I like to use heavy velvet ribbons sometimes (especially for holiday cards) and that's when the tape works wonders. that stuff really sticks! just make sure you know where you want it because it's been known to shred CS if you need to reposition. the knot story that flowergirlkimba shared is really sweet. maybe that will work for your layouts. :) another trick that I use a lot when layering is to punch out small circles or rectangles and thread in and out. I don't like the unfinished holey look that it leaves on single layer so that's when I break out the tape/glue. hope you try out these suggestions and that at least one of them works for you! jenny |
