Reverse Masking
 

I'd like to make a big stack of thank you cards/note cards. I love the ones using reverse masking. Such as:

I'd like to make a mask that will last through a large stack of cards & beyond. I thought of copy paper, but was afraid that it would get icky after lots of stamping. Same with CS. My next thought was using a transparency. But, in my usual manner of "over thinking" everything :oops:... On some of the cards I will want to stamp a big flower over the mask, where only the part within the mask shows(kind of like if you used a big stamp on a domino). Would the transparency be too thick to have the image look good near the edge?

I can say that you don't want to use post it notes or copy paper because after a few uses, the ink will begin to bleed through onto your card. I don't know what will work though.

The pine card you linked is just stunning and I would love to know how to use this technique successfully too!

Bumped for help

If I have to use my mask for several cards, I make more then one mask out of copy paper. I think transparencies should work. I haven't used them yet for reverse masking, other then for Faux Postage masking yet.

Have you tried a couple of sticky notes stuck together? The ink shouldn't go through too easily if there are a couple of layers. I would be reluctant to try the transparency, as the ink will stay wet on top. Knowing me, I'd get the ink everywhere!!!

Another option? Make a mask out of cardstock and use a repositionable adhesive on one side, that way you can use it, remove it and use it again. It would take quite a few uses before the ink gets through the cardstock

You should be able to do it with a thin trancparency sheet with no problem. You will lose a little bit of your image if you actually stamp over it but on the card samples you posted they probably stippled the shape you saw then stamped over it after removing the paper with the 'hole'. You could just lay a piece of paper on the side where any image overlapped and it wouldn't be a big deal to replace a simple piece of paper. Make sense?
