Default Tile Question

I went to get tiles yesterday and Home Depot only had one box of tumbled tiles left so I got that and some regular shiny ones. I stamped on the shiny ones with Stazon and used Zig Memory Markers to color them. They are still not dry this morning. Can I just spray a clear sealer on them? Is that the only disadvantage to using the shiny tiles? I am going to another Home Depot today to see if I can find more tumbled tiles.

You can spray them immediately. You just need to use light thin coats from a good distance to start. You don't need to wait for the markers to dry before sealing. Currently HD is either eliminating or redoing the tumble tile section, you more than likely won't find them around town. Try Lowes for tiles.

Default Tiles

I actually asked at Home Depot yesterday and the girl told me that they would be getting more in but they only order a couple of boxes at a time because they do not sell well. Imagine that, there must not be too many stampers around here!!!! She said it would be a few weeks before they get them and I have too many coaster sets to make to wait a few weeks!!

Thanks for the sealing info. I will go spray them right now.

Is the drying the only disadvantage to the glossy ones?

I personally don't like the slick glossy ones and don't think they make good coasters. Even after sealing, there's a chance of the glass slipping, in my opinion. You could try Lowes for tumble tiles, they should have a good stock of them there and I hear they have 32 cent tiles too.

ETA ~ if memory serves me, because they are thinner, the glossy crack easier and aren't as easy to put back together.

That's great advice - except for those of us who are Lowe's -less.
They haven't made it this far North yet - sort of like the Killer Bees!

Thanks for the advice, I can definitely understand the slipping off part. I will go to the Lowes here and see if I have any luck.

Thank You!

I found mine at Menards this last weekend. They were $5.98 for a stack of 9. We do not have a Lowes around us either.

We don't have them here either. All I knew was they sponsored a race team, thought they were some kind of auto parts store/manufacturer.

Menards is good, but starting to slide - Myabe John needs to spend less time with his racecar.

Default Tumbled Tiles

Also, you might try the Yellow pages for a supply store that sells tiles. Usually they have the same stuff Home Depot and Lowes would.

Are there supposed to be lots of tiny pits in the tumbled tiles?

PHayes,
When you go to Lowe's, look for the Riata tiles. These are the ones I've been buying. They come in 3 different colors - white, beige and terra cotta. They also have a green shade in the 6x6 size tiles. HD does not carry this brand. I looked. My problem is with buying the ones in the $5.98 pack, you get 9 tiles, and if you're making sets of 4 each, you have to buy 4 packs to get the extra set.

Plus, at $.32 each (Lowes), you can get any amount you want and they're cheaper! I actually like them better. We are having a little craft fair tomorrow at work, hopefully the coaster sets will sell!

Kat,
Thank you so much. I did one coaster with the tumbled tiles and I am not very pleased with it. I will go to Lowes and look for the other ones and hopefully I will be happier. I guess I got ripped off at Home Depot yesterday because my box of tumbled only had 8 in them!!!

Thanks!

They used to come 24 to a package and sold for $20. Unfortunately, not all Lowes are selling the Riata tiles yet. Mine doesn't have them and laughed when I said 32cents a tile. Maybe you'll have better luck. From what I saw at HD, they did not have the right tumble tiles, the ones I've gotten in the past were smooth and had a different UPC. The ones there this weekend were pitted and the name didn't start with a B.

I did not think that they were supposed to have all of the pits in them. It made it quite hard to color. I will check Lowes for the Riata tiles and another HD in the area to see if they have better tumbled tiles.

Thanks for all the help!
