Replacing wirebound notebook covers?

Does anyone know how to attach a new cover to a spiral (wire) bound notebook without taking the wire binding out? I think I read somewhere about someone who cut little slits to make the new cover slide right on around the coils. If I could just find an 1/8 rectangle or square punch I could punch new holes and slip it on at the "ends" of the spirals but the punches I see available aren't the right size/shape. Thanks!

did you find out how to do it?

I really want to cover a steno book and need some ideas.

I begin by tearing a piece of paper from the notepad and use it as a guide on the back of the cover I've made. I mark the holes and punch them useing a 1/16"(I think) circle hole punch. Then I cut the slits and slide the new cover on.

I just purchased, but haven't use it yet, the Add-A-Page tool by Beary Patch. It comes with a square punch and guide for placing the holes.
