reflected image - How's it done
 

Help, How do you get a mirror image of a stamp so it looks like it is being reflected in water? I really would like to try this with the Lovely As A Tree stamp set. Thanks in advance for your help!! Ann

I have not done this technique but my understanding is that you have to stamp the image first on smooth stamp, like a shadow stamp or the square one from SU's the Shape of things. Then stamp with that onto your paper. Anyone out there have a better way?

I know a couple of ways. You can stamp onto waxed paper, then use that for your reversed image. Smooth carefully onto the CS. Stamp the regular image on the CS above it. You can stamp onto a large shape stamp (the shape of things was great for this), and use that to stamp your reversed image. You may want to experiment with stamping off - or not - the right way image using this method. I just saw a sample where the imabe was stamped onto aceatae and that was flipped over to make the reverse. And I have also stamped on vellum and flipped it over to get the reverse. Than I definitely stamped off on the right side.

OK, it was more than a couple - who's counting?

I think you can also ink up your stamp and transfer the image to a brayer and roll it on the cardstock. If you do it this way, do the reflection part first so you get everything lined up right.

I used the smooth side of the plastic mat for the stamp-a-ma-jig! It worked wonderfully! And you can see where you stamp it!

Reflected Image Tecnique:
* Ink stamp in the center of the paper. Try to lone up the bottom of the image with the center of the paper.
* Ink image again stamp upside down directly below original stamped image, (use a slightly lighter color)
*color and embellish as you wish...mine was just brayered to get the "lake effect"

I am going to try the methods listed but in the past I ahve used (with moderateo to poor success) my brayer...... it all depends on the size of the image.

I used acetate to reverse the image ( mine was a fishing boat).
I stamped the boat on glossy white, then reinked and stamped
on acetate, put the acetate ink down on the glossy. This way you
can see where to place the image. It works a lot better than
the reverse stamp.

Do you find that craft ink works better with this technique?
I just tried it with classic ink, but my mirror image was much lighter than the original image.
So I tried it with craft in on a large shadow stamp and it came out nearly identical to the original.

Was I doing something wrong when I tried it with classic ink?

Hi NY Nan, I don't think it was you. I tried doing it with the classic ink on the brayer and it didn't work well for me either. I tried using the vellum and that came out really nice. I haven't had a chance to try the acetate method but that sounds promising. Thank you to everyone here at splitcoast who answered my question.
