I found that if I followed the stamp cleaner recipe to the letter, it left a film on my stamp and block. I think next time I'll use less glycerin. You folks who haven't made the cleaner yet might take that into consideration --- don't go heavy on the glycerin!
You can use the filterd water from your Pur pitcher in place of the distilled water. I make a lot of homemade toiletries and do this often with no ill affects.
To answer this previously posted question:
do you think you can use soap fragrance also? they have lots of fragrance at hobby lobby.

I would not use fragrance oils on rubber stamps! Rose water is made from natural plant material and is safe. Rose petals have sofening properties.
Great $$ saving tips!! I just bought Staz-on cleaner last week, but will try the home made too.....I also will do the blender pen thing!!! I hate spending $ on stuff like this, would rather buy a new stamp or some paper!!
I have mostly used baby wipes, but I don't know how "bad" this is for my stamps...I'm kinda still new at this!
Found glycerin at my local Walgreens. They had received one bottle "by mistake" that week and the clerk knew right where it was. Saved me a drive across town. Yippee!

This is the recipe that I have been using for over a year now. Smells great, Cleans great, and Cost little!

2 1/4 cup water (I use bottled water that I have on hand)
2 TSP Baby Bath or Shampoo
(I like to use the Bedtime Baby Bath as this smells nice)
1 TSP Baby Oil

I have a few clear stamps mounted on clear blocks. It works good on these aslo. But I must admit that I mostly use rubber stamps.
Sorry, I know my answer circles around your question. Try it and see. I don't think that it could hurt them:-)

I use it all the time with my clear stamps. But bear in mind that clear stamps stain much more easily than rubber stamps, especially with certain inks.
Thank you for the wonderful recipes! I had no idea that I could make my own cleaner or blender refills. This is great and I can't wait to do some "chemistry". SCS has the greatest members!

I'm not sure about the long term effect of the cleaner on clear stamps. So far I've been using this recipe for nearly a year and have yet to notice any damage...

Excellent ideas! I'm new to stamping and was wondering if there was a cheaper cleaner than sold by SU (sorry SU but I have to save where I can) and these recipes are excellent. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Now I have to go look for some glycerin (ha ha---as a nurse I had to laugh at the glycerin suppository post---not quite what you were thinking of!!!)
What a wealth of information this site is. I'm so glad I found it!! thanks to everyone for their recipes and helpful hints. My mother always said..."you learn something new every day"!! How true!
I'm not a chemist, so I can't answer for certain, but various locations differ with the degree of chemicals and calcium, etc. that is in the tap/drinking water. I would think that distilled water is used to make sure that you aren't coating your stamps with anything that would cause hardening...like the hard water stains around my drains that require lime-away to remove. That is my thoughts on why they recommend distilled water (which is pure of any chemicals like lime/calcium/salts).
Yeah, for the same reason they tell you to use distilled water in your steam iron. Hard water deposits.

By subscribing you will receive email notification when anything is added to the thread. It also makes it easier for you to refer to the thread when you look under your subscriptions. When you contribute to a thread you're automatically subscribing to it. so some just say "subscribing" in their post. The other way to subscribe is to go to "thread tools" at the top of the page, click on it and then click "subscribe to this thread".
the title changes automatically depending on the number of posts you have made. There's no way to change it except by making more posts =)

I also didn't know that you were suppose to dilute the SU cleaner. Thanks for the recipes. When I run out of my SU cleaner I might just have to make the recipe & try it out for myself. TFS

I have some well over a year old. I store it in a plastic and glass jar since it was too much for one. With the things in it, there is nothing that would make it spoil.
