Question About Brayers
 

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the different brayers (rubber, foam, acrylic) are used for. Thanks in advance!!

The rubber one can be used to brayer color on plain white glossy card stock to make any color you want. It especially works well with spectrum ink pads. I have one I just recently did with the Easter Morn set. It's posted in that or my gallery.I have also used it to color other card stock and envelopes. If it is not glossy it will be a little fuzzy, but still looks pretty good. There is a lot of different techniques that can be made using this brayer. You can make black glossy card stock. You can brayer spectrum color on glossy. Stamp an image with versamark. Emboss. Then brayer black, wipe down with paper towel, for a beautiful effect.
The foam brayer can be used with the plaid maker instead of using sponges. Saves time.
The acrylic brayer can be used as a rolling pin for sculpy clay. Another effect is placing rubber bands around it. Ink it up, for a nice background.
Special tip: Make sure you store rubber brayer with the roller up. Not touching a surface or it can place an unseen dent in it. Then, when you roll the color will not be even.

The foam brayer can be used on Vellum paper with ink to make your own custom colored Vellum! Use any of the 48 colors, or experiment with making your own designed vellum. Here's a technique using the rubber brayer, Stampin Up Metallic Pencils, and Stencils with Glossy Paper: Place the stencil over the glossy paper and color thoroughly using the metallic pencils. (I have tried this with another brand of metallic pencils, but it didn't work. I bought the Stampin Up ones after trying that!) After finishing the coloring, use the brayer with regular or spectrum pad to color over the entire image. Take a tissue afterward and rub the top of the paper. The part where the metallic pencils were used will show up in all white, similar to using clear embossing but without the heating and powder. It's very pretty!!

I just used the brayer this weekend on white mulberry paper since I didn't have the exact color of paper I wanted to use. Just used the color stamp pad I need to match my paper and ink and brayered the mulberry paper! Worked great!

I went to the Toledo, OH SU! regional and one demonstrator had this great storage solution for your brayer attachments: use the old SU! eyelet containers! They're long enough to hold the attachments and makes it easy to transport them.

you can also use the foam heads with brass stencils...a nice soft effect

i also use the acrylic head for mashing all my layers down to make sure the adhesive is sticking and that everything is flat
