If there is stamping on it, double-sided tape can be used in strategic positions. In the following one I was able to add enough tape under the poinsettias to hold it securely. Vellum Poinsettias by Cook22 at Splitcoaststampers
There are special adhesives available, but I've never found them very satisfactory either in terms of sticking power or lack of visibility.
I remember running vellum thru my xyron so that the whole thing was covered with adhesive and therefore, no spots of it showing thru. I recently tried to do that only to discover that the roll of double sided adhesive and gotten messed up and I ended up with stripes of adhesive. Ugh!!! It is getting near the end of a roll that’s been sitting around for at least a couple of years, so hopefully that’s the problem.
Stitching is another option that’s a bit like Sabrina’s “make a feature of it” ideas. You can machine stitch or do it by hand, either all round or something like cross stitches at strategic, decorative intervals.

I was going to list stitching, actually. But I've had occasionally had trouble with vellum tearing, more so than I do with paper so I wasn't sure whether to advise it - plus, my post went bogey and not one of my links worked so by the time I'd previewed and fixed them I wasn't prepared to try adding another one. But yes indeed.

I agree with Cook22, the specialist adhesives just don't work, a waste of money, so all the suggestions made so far are the only way to invisibly adhere the vellum.

That’s interesting Sabrina. I wonder whether stitch length is a factor? If I machine stitch on cardstock (or the odd occasion I’ve done it on vellum) I tend to use quite a long stitch.
I have had good luck with attaching vellum by using a sponge and a liquid adhesive. Pour a small amount of adhesive on a silicon mat or glass mat and dab the sponge in the glue, then over the back of the vellum. It works for me! Why you see adhesive is due to the contrast of where the glue is and where the glue isn't. So if you cover the back with glue, there is no contrast.
I have tried all the ways suggested except sewing. I love that idea! Wish I had thought about it years ago. I usually like the mostly loose look of vellum, but have had success with the xyron, especially, if I really want to see the underneath clearly.

I would definitely go even longer with my stitch length for vellum than I would for regular card. I think perhaps I've also had trouble if the thread breaks or I haven't noticed that the bobbin ran out (I try to remember to check it before I start, but it doesn't always happen). It's much harder to get an exact re-alignment with the vellum.
I use the method mentioned above of wrapping it around the layer underneath it. Or I put a frame on top of it as I did in this card Butterfly on Vellum.

Yes, thanks to everyone for your suggestions and experiences. I really like the look of using vellum but I'm not sure it's worth all of the extra effort?
I don't know if anyone has mentioned spray adhesive. I've used the spray E6000, and it works fine. You could also cut a double-sided adhesive sheet to the same size and apply it to the vellum before sticking the vellum down.
I always, in advance, look for a way to cover the attachment site. For instance, I put a dot of glue in each corner of the cardstock, press on the vellum, then cover the glue spots with somerthing like a punched-out leaf, or a butterfly, or a brad or half pearl, or if i am putting something on the vellum elswhere, like in the center of the card, I put a glue dot on the cardstock in the center, press on the vellum, then proceed. Alternatively, I make a border/frame to put over the glue I used to secure the vellum to the base cardstock, along the perimeter. In general, I avoid the vellum problem, considering the multitude of ways to make a card without vellum!
