I haven't seen much of paper quilling here so i thought of sharing it with all of you. It looks like a tough job but is very simple

Thanks for reminding everyone about quilling. I love quilling and the look of it.
I use it in my card making. I enjoyed looking at the sites you provided -- always looking for other ideas.

archanapandurangi - OK. I guess I have to get out my quilling stuff too! You mentioned waiting for the glue to dry. I wonder if the smallest glue dots would work on quilled pieces so you wouldn't have to wait for it to dry or tiny strips or something? I don't know just a thought. What width of strips do you use?

You have some lovely stuff in your gallery! I was wondering if anyone knew what the US equivalent might be for her 3D outline marker. It looks shiny or glittery. The only thing I can think of is Souffle pens but those aren't shiny. Any ideas anyone?

I generally use quilling strips which are already cut... they come in two sizes..a)45cm long n 0.4cm wide b)45cm long n 0.8cm wide
I make 3 petals/leaves out of one strip

About glue dots, im not so sure what they are so wouldn't be able to tell much about it ... if the glue dots cover the quilled piece fully then i think it should work . If the quilled piece isnt covered with glue fully then it wont stick to the cs properly and the middle or the outer part of the quilled piece will pop out.

I enjoy quilling but for some reason it bothers my eyes. I also use the pre cut strips. I mostly make flowers and use them as embellishments.

hey Smita its so good to find someone from Mumbai here.. i get most of my stuff from FORT.. a place called BORA BAZAAR .. there r a lot of paper marts in tht area... plenty of options to choose from.. you can also buy them from CRAWFORD market... except for stamps n staming pads of diff colors ive found other things there.. if u know a place where we get stamps here do let me know... i have gone insane searching for stamps here.. hope this helps...

Thank you so much! Now and then I try and revive the interest in quilling but never seem to get far LOL. The satisfaction of making your own embellishments is worth the patience required to do quilling.

Do you ladies use the 1/8 in (2cm?) width when doing things for cards? I'm used to using the size that is double that. I'm a little intimidated thinking about using that narrow width and getting it glued properly etc. Also what do you use for a sealer/coating to protect your work? Any help appreciated.

I'm starting to get hooked on quilling, I love the finished look.
There is a really nice new book by Marie Browning that you should check out. Check your local library first or Joann's (our store has it and I have a coupon).

I use the 1/8 inch quilling paper when doing quilling for cards or scrapbooks. The size that is "double" that I use for making fringed flowers. If you use the bigger size on cards or scrapbooks you can risk your artwork being smashed as the work then sits up too high.

The best way I find to glue pieces together is to glue them all together on a piece of cork covered with wax paper. That way you can pin your pieces together while they are drying. When your quilled piece is completed and dry then you can move it to your card or scrapbook page and glue it onto that.

The only time I use any type of "sealer" is when I am making jewelry or making something that is going to be exposed or used for a long time. I then use a clear acrylic spray. I use it sparingly and don't really care to use it as it can change the color of the paper you worked with. But for jewelry or pieces you have made to decorate a box for instance, I would recommend a sealer. For quilled pieces on a scrapbook page I don't use a sealer. For cards I don't use a sealer either.

I use 1/8 inch paper and cut my own as we can't get quilling paper over here or the tools. Love the look of that slotted tool Monica!
I usually use a hole reamer for most of my quilling but use a slotted tool for fringed pieces or the folded roses.
I do find the 1/8 in paper quite small but I have big fat fingers and I have no trouble rolling or glueing. I think it just depends how much patience you have :)

Thanks for adding me to your blog list and I'm glad you like the jewelry. That's too bad that you can't get the paper or the tools. There is always that auction site........I don't know if I can say it here..........but they have a lot of quilling supplies such as paper and tools and a lot of them ship internationally. I do hope you have a fringer too as that would be TONS of work! :)

Response to a quilling question about "pinning"
 

Hi everyone! I had someone ask me about "pinning" my pieces while I work on them. When I'm not using my cork board I have this piece of Styrofoam that came shrink wrapped in plastic. I left the plastic on it and pin and glue my pieces together on that so that the glue won't stick to the surface. I have attached a photo so you can see what I'm talking about.

When I am working on a flower for example, like the one in the picture, I pin each petal together to hold it in place next to the other petals while it dries. This ensures that your piece will come out even and flat. It is very easy to make your petals uneven if you don't have them held together. Monica, I went to you blog. You have some really neat earrings. You did a great job on your tutorial. Nice to meet some other quillers.

My quilling board is an unused mousemat with a sheet of cork board cut to fit underneath so i can pin things. The pieces lift off easily once they are dry.

I wish I did have a quiller.!!! None to be found over here and if I ordered online I'd be worried about the postage! I frill by hand but it's quite easy once you get the hang of it. I fold the strip in half and use a bulldog clip to anchor it to my craft mat and use the craft knife to cut it.

Here is my attempt at quilling... This was my first project. I saw this design on the internet (sorry, I don't remember where) and printed out a photo and copied it. I have it framed and in my craft room. I have started a new hobby!!!!!!

I haven't done quilling in at least 10 years. I forgot how lovely it is and how great it would be on cards.
I never throw out craft supplies and equipment even when i lose interest in the craft. I know me and I will want to do it again in the future. So now I need to dig out my quilling stuff. :D

Barbara; you are like me; I love to come back to crafts that I've really enjoyed in past years. I really want to get back to my embroidery sometime after a two year break from it, it's in the back of mind still. We move along and try new things ....

I only save the equipment for the hobbies I enjoyed.
When I start a new craft/hobby I try to buy a kit or spend the least amount of money possible so if I don't like doing it I have less to give to the Goodwill. :lol: :lol:

I tried counted cross stitch and rug hooking. I didn't enjoy either one. It was tedious for me to do the same motion over and over.

I love birds and took a class on carving birds, but found I don't have the strength in my hands for wood carving.
So not every craft I try ends up being a keeper. But enough were keepers that I have a "mini store" in my spare room :roll:

I wish there was a place here that I could take classes on quilling. I purchased supplies when I started taking classes at a store that went out of business. Hopefully I will find someone who teaches.
