paper piercing

Is paper piercing merely cutting out the stamped image?

kelicat 08-03-2007 12:45 PM

I'm no expert but I have a SU mat pack and it is used to pierce the paper to create a border or just to decorate. It's a nice finishing touch.

This is not my card, but this is what I always thought of when hearing paper piercing. The border around.

Are you speaking of paper piercing or paper piecing? Piercing is using a needle like tool to make tiny holes resembling sewing or patterns. Piecing is using bits of paper to make a design, sort of like piecing a quilt.

Yes, you can make any kind of a pattern--straight line, circle, whatever using a piercing tool. The holes created in the paper resemble those that needles leave in fabric. Have you ever seen punched tin? Same idea. SOOO Cute!!

Not sure which one you are referring about...but here are a couple examples which may help you....

Paper PIECING....cutting out a stamped image from paper, usually printed papers, and gluing them over the same image stamped on cardstock....

Paper PIERCING....as another mentioned, poking holes with a needle or unthreaded sewing machine, and then connect the lines with a gel pen...

Hope that helps you out some!

Piecing - - - -is there a trick?

I'll be honest I needed the piercing piecing clarification myself! For piecing does everyone have a favorite set of scissors they use? Seems like you might want something specific for that since I could see where detail is important.

No trick, but it is a little more difficult if your stamp is very detailed. For me, it's better if the stamp has open areas (not bold). Also, the number of layers you piece can add to difficulty. I find it immensely helpful to use a good, sharp scissor (like SU's paper snips) when piecing - I'm just not that good with the exacto knife. Here's another couple of examples:

For paper piercing, I look at it as stitching/sewing without the thread.
