Default What size paper for paint cans?

I am interested in decorating a paint can. I haven't bought anything for it yet but I am curious ... does an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet fit around it or do you have to use 12x12? Do you have seams?

Thanks for feeding my curiosity

I was just researching this subject myself! Here are a couple of threads I found with some good info:

Hope that helps.

We made one of these cans at a class, and yes, there were two seams on either side by the handle, and the demo used 2 different types of 12x12 paper, one patterned, one plain, and the seam in the middle was covered with ribbon
