Can someone tell me how to do sculptured vellum and paper tole. I recently saw a post on a yahoo group about sculptured vellum and I've tried my hand at paper tole, but the paper tole never comes out the way it should. Any advice.
I think Paula-Kay gave really great instructions on the Technique Junkies group...
To sculpture vellum, you have to wet it. It works beautifully on flower stamps. Stamp your image on cardstock and color it. Then stamp it again on vellum and color it again (with either pens or watercolor pencils), use a craft knife to cut around several of the petals. Then wet the cut petals with a brush and watch them curl. Too much water makes them curl too much. Dab with paper towel if needed. You can also bend it with your fingers to the position you want it. After it dries, it retains its shape. Put the vellum image over the cardstock. It gives a 3-dimensional look. If placed in an envelope, it will mash flat but pop back when pulled out. This takes some experimentation, but you'll love it, and it is a very different look. I learned it in a class at H.I.A. in January. You can also use it on the sails of a sailboat, the wings of a butterfly or dragonfly.
Basically, this is just layering. But by wetting the second layer before mounting it makes it pop-up off the page. She had a couple examples, it's a little hard to see the pop but I think you can see the idea really well.
OMG - I have never heard of it!!! I can't believe I missed hearing about it!!!
Details, please!!!
Name, manufacturer, where to find it in the store!!!
Shoot, I was just in a stamp store yesterday!! Usually, I avoid them like the plague because I get into too much trouble in them!!!
I only bought a nice inside verse stamp and a Ranger Distressed linin ink pad - not too bad!!
And now I have to go back in!!
TIA,
Amie
