new technique for pastels!

i think i discovered a new way to use my pastels today. i was upset because i don't have lavendar lace ink and wanted to stamp the sentiment for my card in it. so i thought i would try using versamark and my pastels....i inked my stamp with versamark and then used a sponge on the pastel. i tapped the sponge onto the versamarked stamp and huffed on it then stamped my image and it looks wonderful, no mess like poppin pastles leaves on light CS

here is my card the sentiment is stamped in the manner described above!

Brenda - very cool! This way, you don't get the chalky outline on the cardstock. TFS!

PS-Congrats on WW!

How about 'Chalked VersaMark'? I'm so bad, no imagination here. I abbreviate everything. Stormy

jenpeel 01-20-2007 04:11 AM

ozarkstamper 01-24-2007 03:08 PM

Wonderful discovery! TFS! Have fun with naming your discovery. :) Looking forward to hearing (reading) your final decision on the name.

nanabear54 01-24-2007 03:18 PM

Congratulations on the weight loss and the new technique. I'm anxious to try it. Maybe you could call it pastel-mark. Just an idea. Isn't it great that God gave us such creative minds?

off_the_wall 01-24-2007 03:45 PM

cheryl1968 01-25-2007 07:57 AM

Did you set it with anything...like hairspray? I will definatly give it a try, great idea!

boogaloobettie 01-25-2007 09:16 AM

Love it... I don't have any of the Soft Subtles Ink Pads and now I can't wait to try this!!! Whoo-hooo!

brendalea 01-25-2007 09:51 AM

nope but it was just a birthday card, i don't think it will be handled that much...??? may be an idea... I would think treating it the same was as you would poppin pastels would be a good idea, but then again i don't 'set' any of my projects.

Your card turned out beautiful! This is definitely a good way to get me to use my pastels. I don't use 'em very much.:(

Maryam11 01-25-2007 02:30 PM

Right on sista! That looks beautiful. I am going to try it out for myself! If I can get it to work, I'll start telling my customers about it because this could really open up some color options for them!

brendalea 01-25-2007 04:00 PM

and help sell pastels!!

Especially for people who don't like dirtying up their inkpads, KWIM? I don't like mixing the colors of my inkpads, but if you can get the same effect with pastels, then hey, why not.

brendalea 01-26-2007 05:10 PM

watch for my tutorial!! Beate contacted me and asked me to create a tutorial for this technique. i hope to get it done this week! it should be in the weekly inkling in march sometime!!

tinadoran 01-26-2007 05:45 PM

Anyway........great idea!

CowgirlCreations 01-26-2007 06:10 PM

Menda 01-27-2007 01:50 PM

YOUR A GENIEOUS GENIOUUS I TELL YA!!!!! Thanks for sharing early. I have loved the poppin pastels I have seen but have not tried because I know me and see a mess in the makin. I will so do this. I can actually see it without the steps which is just not something I am good at. Can't wait for your next break out. Dance on Sista!!!!!!!!!!

StampingShawn 01-28-2007 06:39 PM

Thanks for sharing this idea...the card is quite cute. Did you spray any sort of fixative on the card to seal the pastels?

Thanks,

Shawn

laurelwright 01-28-2007 07:16 PM

Bravo! Way to go... I am lovin' the idea of doing this but let me ask...do you need to huff on it? Versamark is stickier than the dye based inks...

stampinsheri 01-29-2007 09:16 AM

Brenda,
Way to go on the WW. I was thinking of joinin myself. I dont cook, hate exercise and love to eat. I am serious! I am 50 lbs over. Do you think I have a chance?
Lookin for advice!

Tortuga 01-29-2007 10:02 AM

Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to try it. Also congrats on your weight loss. Isn't WW great?

I can't wait for the tutorial, but I also would like to teach your technique at a pastels class I'll be having at the end of this month. I have to post a sample on my blog tonight, and since a permanent name has not been found yet, I was going to call is "direct to stamp pastels". I know it's not necessarily the shortest title, but it seems pretty descriptive. I thought i would post that here in case you still were thinking about what to call this technique and mike like this option. If you have named it something else, would you please let me know -- maybe PM me -- so that i can use the right name when i talk about it? Thanks!

This is a fantastic technique, by the way!
