need help
 

I have tried the crayon resist technique 3 times now, on SU and other brands glossy card stock. every time i use the white crayon, it smears the black ink ( su)

any advice??

Funny, I've never had that problem - Are you brayering over the ink, sponging? When does it smear?

I'm wondering if you need to let it sit for a little while to make sure the ink is very dry before you try brayering and "polishing" it.

Other than that I'm not sure, sorry.

Is it dry all the way? Maybe you could dry it with an embossing gun to be sure? How about StazOn, have you tried it? Hmmmm.....I have never done that technique, but maybe those things would help.

I stamp with black classic SU ink on white glossy cs, I walk away for 10 minutes then come back, take the white crayon and color over the areas i want to highlight, the crayon is smearing the ink.

I agree with the others that you might just need to let the ink dry a little longer. I've used the SU! Basic Black and Stazon without trouble--but it was totally dry.

ok a huge hint for glossy. stamp image turn upside down on you grid paper dont slide and rub back of paper to mush the little dots of ink that dont dry. its like blotting in reverse. you can immediately stamp and flip and no worries about not brilliant enough

ps learned this trick when i had to do 150 resist christmas cards
stamp flip hold one edge run fist across and toss to the side. did the first 25 the long drying way last 125 went quicker then the first 25

waited 4 hours, crayon still made the ink smear

That's kind of strange...I have been at a stamp camp with a crayon resist project - SU! glossy and SU! classic ink, and no one made it smear. And stamp camp participants are notoriously NOT patient!

Try Staz On ink. Or try a different color (just to test the black pad for being weird!) SU! ink on the SU! paper.

It shouldn't make a difference, but what kind of crayon are you using?

I use the cheap white crayons that are very waxy, I've also using a "china marker" (think that's what it's called) where you pull the string and the paper comes off along the point, it's never smeared.

Don't feel bad! You're not alone! I've been wondering this same thing and just happened to run across your post. I really love the "Unfrogettable" card featured in the Dec. SS and followed the directions to a T. It specifically says to use basic black classic ink (not Stazon) on glossy card stock, color w/ whisper white watercolor crayon, then brayer over w/ a darker color - for this card old olive classic ink. Soooo... not only has my ink been smearing, but when I brayer over and try to wipe off the excess - my image still stays olive. I'll try to let the ink dry a little longer but that's hard to do w/ lot's of people and I really wanted to demo this technique at my next workshop. Also wondering how to know if I've covered my image thoroughly w/ the watercolor crayon? Any tips would be much appreciated!

Is there alot of humidity in your area? I know that makes the Crystal Effects take much longer to dry down here in the south than up in Utah. I've never had the ink smear on crayon resist. I wonder if you stamp off before you stamp your image if that'd help reduce the amount of ink going on the glossy side of the glossy cardstock. Just a thought. Good luck!

I have only ever used wax crayons (saved the white/clear one from the Easter Egg kit) for this...hmmm...watercolor crayon?

Maybe it is your paper. What type of glossy are you using?

I was having a similar problem, but then I used a Crayola crayon and that fixed my problem.
