Question More Brayering HELP needed..please!!

Hi All...I sure do appreciate ALL the help given me with HOW to use the brayer and blend colors, etc...finally getting the hang of it...however??!!!

I found that "sometimes" I get these weird ?? marks like on my glossy card stock that I'm using (S-UP BRAND...all I got..) but it looks like glue?? or something kind of smeared like??

Was wondering if maybe I am picking something up on the brayer  and that's why it's on the cardstock...but I am VERY careful to clean after each use. I do spray the brayer (MIST I guess you'd say) after I get it loaded up and that has helped me a LOT with the blending so as not to get those nasty lines "I" hate anyways.

Just dunno?? what might be happening??

I also have learned that the colors DO dry lighter than what they first appear...not a bad thing, just wasn't aware of that...

LAST thing.. I tried the resist technique I think it's called...where again I used the glossy cardstock, stamped my image(s) with Versamark and than inked my brayer and applied it over image. The images did NOT stay (or look) white like video I saw someplace?? and I couldn't wipe off the ink that was left behind on the images?

If I stamped with Versamark, and used clear embossing powder, heat set that, and than brayered over images it worked GREAT!! Just thought it would save a little time NOT having to actually emboss all the images...just stamp, and brayer over.

ANY help on these two problems is greatly appreciated..I promise NOT to post any more brayering questions....just LOVE the look and the fact that you can get such beautiful backgrounds with the brayer.

Take care....You guys are the "bestest"!!! Cya...Jo

I shortened your quote a little so I hope it still makes sence to everyone.

Sometimes Finger prints leave marks on the glossy cardstock that act as a resist when brayered. Be sure to wipe off any fingerprints with a soft cloth.

When using VersaMark for a resist, I have learned that the VersaMark needs to be completely dry before you brayer over it.

Hope this helps,

If your VersaMark isn't completely dry, maybe you are picking that up on your brayer. VersaMark doesn't wash off easily.

Default Glue Like Marks ? when using Brayer on Glossy C/S

I guess that maybe that could be ??? what's leaving marks as I stamped it, and than brayered right over that...hhmmm?? Can you speed up the drying time of the Versamark with a heat gun? or is that a no no maybe?

It kind of makes sense now that you mention the Versamark, as it is very sticky!! kind of like a glue, and that's how I described the marks...will have
to try it again but LET IT DRY and than brayer over that.

THANKS so much!! If I find that's what happening, I'll let you know in case others are having problems....

IF!!!!!! you were to emboss first, (vs. using just the versamark) has anyone tried using a colored embossing powder (vs. just clear) ??? and does it still stay shiny looking once you brayer over it?

Take care...appreciate the help and suggestions!! Cya.. Jo

Yes, you can use colored, and yes it will stay shiny. Whenever you use EP, just buff off the ink after the cardstock has dried. (I have not waited long enough before and accidentally made streaks on my brayered part!) Here is a card where I used both versamark resist and emboss resist using gold EP: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

VERY NICE card....love the colors and the two different effects using both the Versamark embossing and also the embossing powder...and love that brayered background as well!! Adding this to my favorites!! Thanks for replying back.

To help stop the lines when brayering, run your brayer slowly over the stamp pad so the brayer is not still spinning when you get to the end of the stamp pad. If the brayer spins, you may leave a spot on the brayer that doesn' have the same amount of ink as the rest of the brayer.
