switchplates

haven't stamped, or played with switchplates yet -- and a bunch of plain white ones just fell into my hands - and they are screaming for me to play with them

any suggestions - or is there a tutorial somewhere?

i would imagine if i'm just going to stamp i would use stazon, right? but if i'm going to "paint" some sort of background how would i go about doing that -- i would imagine acrylic paint would flake off???? what else could i use? do i need to prime it with something --

or, should i make a paper cover and modge podge it on or something?

any ideas woul dbe helpful! TIA!

If you wanted to colour in the images you could use alcohol inks (markers like sharpies, or Ranger alcohol inks). Also, if you covered with paper first, then you could use your regular inks. I would seal them afterwards tho since they do get a lot of use and fingerprints. I have a craft show coming up in a couple weeks and I never thought of making switch plate covers. Thanks for the idea.

hehe -- no problem. glad i could give you some inspiration. got the idea from a friend who wrapped her's in the same wallpaper she used to do a room - -thought, now, why haven't i thought of that before. i was thinking about doing some for a craft show too!!! good luck with yours!!!

btw -- thanks for your advice -- i was thnking the same thing about sealing.

I sell the light switch cover plates at crafts shows and I always get a lot of "oh, what a great idea" comments. I typically just cover them with patterned paper and sometimes go a step further and embellish too.

cute! exactly what i was thinking -- maybe stamping the paper and then attaching -- might be easier then trying to figure out if something will chip off of the plastic.

any tips on getting them coverd right? do you put a top coat of anythign on to protect them from fingers, etc.?

I don't seal them anymore. I find it makes the paper feel tough and stiff and unpleasant to touch. I use red-line super sticky tape to adhere the paper to the plates.
