MINI Envelope book.......So easy!

MINI Envelope book.......You Just put the envelope closures (flaps) inside each other. I moisten a few of the folds and make sure that it won't fall apart. It is really as simple as that! Make sure you don’t seal the part that you want open …..so you can hide a secret
Then you decorate to your hearts content!!!

I went to a free class and the ladies at T of M, a local store, they had a book ready for us to make!!! I just made my with SU stuff......I even entered one in the SU contest...didn't win...oh well.

Just play with your envelopes.....it’s a boat load of fun!!!

I needed a visual - found this website - hope it helps anyone else. Now I've got another neat thing for a stamp camp. That and my hundreds of legal pads!

Thanks for bringing this idea to my attention!

Jackie G 08-27-2004 10:36 PM

Stampintree, Thanks for the "visual" That look like a great site for techniques.

LisaLisa, You look like a brunette Reese Witherspoon. Is that really your picture? I want to look like that!!!

Y'all have a great weekend!!! :D

Lisa Lisa 08-27-2004 11:24 PM

that is a nice link....however it is not the same as my mini book. mine in only envelopes. no matt board. so much less complicated than the one on the link.
the visual can be seen in LunarLana's Gallery....I sent on to her! It uses 5 envelope that fold inside each other....flap inside of flap. HTH

sahm_i_am 08-28-2004 03:47 AM

Lisa - now remember you are SWEET - but I don't get it. I'm going to play around with my envies today but if I still don't understand I'm going to PM you ok? I just love the book you made Lana - super cool! And it does look easy - I'm just a hands on person. Thanks for sharing the tip.

qcbetty 08-28-2004 05:17 AM

Hey Leese.......:)

I sat at the table last night and figured it out! I'm making one for my DH for our anniversary!

I LOVE IT. Still clutching it to my chest........

stampintree 08-28-2004 05:37 AM

Okay, I'm going to a crop/stamp and play today and I'm taking lots of envelopes so I can figure this out. I kind of figured it wasn't the same. I checked out the ones LisaLisa sent to LunarLana and I think I've got it. I'll let you know tonight!

tiny bubbles 08-28-2004 05:59 AM

I did it, I did it, I did it!

I put postit notes on each envelope to help me figure it all out.

Envelope 1 tucks into envelope 2. Envelope 3 tucks into envelope 4. Envelope 4 tucks into envelope 2. Envelope 2 tucks into envelope 5.

Envelope 5 is the front, then envelope 4, then 3, then 1, then 2 is the back (with the flap from 5 stuck to the back of 2

These look great to send to my sister and my nieces for birthdays! Thanks for sharing the idea. Dawn

jhattery 08-28-2004 06:33 AM

Can I say WOW!
I went to the gallery and checked it out....how much fun is that!
I am looking forwardt odoing this at a stamp camp. I"m thinking it would be a great Christmas gift for far away relitives....you oculd tuck letters in from individuals in the family (scribblings from the younger ones or even samples of their newly formed handwritting), photos, phone cards or gift certificates...the possibilities are endless!
Thank you so much for sharing
Jenn

 Did I sound mean??? ......just trying to make sure there was no confusion!.......hey, this might help the sweet issue!!!......yea!!! Someone thought I was not sweet!!! I can't wait to tell everyone!!!

I am a visual person too......I was telling Lana what I was making for QC ........couldn't explain it......so I surprised her with one too....wasn't hard to send something adoring to Lana!!!!

I hope you all figure it out....I suck at "telling" directions....heehheee! I wish I had a scanner.....Just think.....start with one flap inside of the other........that is the key......the start of your book will have no openings on the outside.....that is the key!!!

Man I hope I am not confusing the hair Off you all........that’s all we need....a bunch of bald SCS ladies running around with envelopes in their hands wearing puzzled looks on their faces. LOL

PrideStampers 08-28-2004 09:05 AM

jhattery

Can you direct me to LanarLuna's example. I searched her gallery but I guess I'm missing it and I would really like to see a visual!

Thanks

dleonard 08-28-2004 09:36 AM

How cool! Who comes up with this stuff?

Lisa Lisa 08-28-2004 09:49 AM

thats how I feel!!! I am an Excellent CASE-er!!!! things like spinner cards.......there are some incredible minds out there!!!

PrideStampers 08-28-2004 12:24 PM

Thanks! That helps alot! :)

camsmom 08-28-2004 02:29 PM

Are those regualr size envelopes, or the mini envelopes (like the ones that come with teh notecards?) I have extra mini ones, think I know what I am working on next!

qcbetty 08-28-2004 02:53 PM

Britta ~ the envies are 6.5" x 4.75"...I just measured the one Lisa sent.

I have my envies out and am gonna try to case it, right after I finish up some RAK's!

Lisa Lisa 08-28-2004 03:38 PM

thats what is so cool about this Idea.....any size will work!!! I did one with Vellum envys that rocked my world!!! the one I entered for SU! was our standard US white ones.

sacramentostamper 08-29-2004 04:47 AM

Here's a link to the Carol Duvall show when one of her guest made a envelope card/book.

LisaAnn26 08-29-2004 06:12 AM

Thanks for the expaination ddphelps! Not sure if I ended up with quite the same thing, but I got something together. I think if I did this again, it might come out totally different. What a cool idea LisaLisa, thanks for sharing.

qcbetty 08-29-2004 06:24 AM

LisaAnn ~ go look in my gallery ~ I have the whole book scanned. If you look at it you can see how they fit together quite easily! The first one seals to the back of the last one...

Lisa Lisa 08-29-2004 06:25 AM

Hee Hee....thats another link with mat board!!! Heeheehee....still not the same thing. But ......It is a good idea!

Ladies....it is so simple....no matboard.....just envys put inside each other!
lol! Go to QC's gallery!!! flaps face each other.......flap inside of flap.....once you do the first 2 envys and your book is started.....you are set....it doesnt matter which direction the envy is facing.....just flap inside of flap.

sacramentostamper 08-30-2004 11:40 PM

I've been trying to visualize this envelope book and truthfully it hasn't gone very well, maybe because I've been too tired to think lately.

Anywho, I've attached a link to an episode of DIY Scrapbooking that I happened to video tape; is this basiclly the same way that this envelope book is made?

TIA!

iwasborn2stamp 08-31-2004 03:05 AM

I have looked and looked and cannot find this envelope card in LunaLana's gallery. Can someone please post the link to it for me?
PLEEEEEAAAASSSSSEEEE?????

cathystamps 08-31-2004 03:14 AM

Nan,
I just looked and all four pages are there. Here is one link so you know what you are looking for:
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...cat=500&page=2

HTH

stampintree 08-31-2004 04:17 AM

I believe the trick is that the "2 page spread" isn't always going to be pockets. That is when it made sense to me however you do it. AND it can be however many envelopes you want to make it!

Am I getting it LisaLisa?

KarenInKali 08-31-2004 04:22 AM

OMG!! Like others here, I am a visual person. When I read Dawn's post about putting post its on them, I figured I would try it. I didn't use stickies, but just put them together by her directions.... ladies, it's so easy! Just go grab your envelopes and start sticking the flaps inside the other envelopes. You will have one that seals on the outside and can be covered with CS, etc. Thanks Lisa for such a great idea!

Karen

Lisa Lisa 08-31-2004 08:05 AM

Siily 'ol Bear!!! there are NO links for this online.........so quite looking for it!!!! A lady in town came up with this.......you are makin' it way to hard!!! :)

sounds like most of you have gotten it. I use about 5-6 envys. flap inside of flap. stampintree & KarenInOki......you got it!!! I didn't even cover the back with cardstock on Lana's............just grab some envelopes and start putting the flaps (the part with the licky sticky stuff) inside other envelopes. like stampintree said. not evey page will have a pocket. some will have none.
think easy ladies....that will help.
and quit lookin' for link......you wont find one. just look at Lana gallery. it is

:) :) :) :) :) :)

Angie Humphrey 08-31-2004 12:12 PM

Oh my gosh! I love this idea. I can't wait to make one. And it is so simple just like you said Lisa. I followed your directions and got it. It didn't come out exactly the same but it was a book anyhow. Then I did what ddphelps said and that was even more simple. I am definitely doing this at my next stamp camp. And I have a friend's birthday this Sunday and can't wait to make one for her.

Thanks Lisa.

Ok by the way, who is Lana?

Ang

Lisa Lisa 08-31-2004 04:42 PM

AAAAAAAAACCCCCCKK!!! L...L....Lana is the godess or this sight. go look up her gallery. she is huge in the SU world.
she is a regular gal who had enhanced so many lives with her love and skills. the UBER talent.

stampintree 08-31-2004 07:42 PM

Now, now, newbies don't always know the goddesses of SCS. We need to start another thread and list our goddess picks!

Thanks again Leese for your patience - and you thought it was sooooo easy! Lots of visual types in the audience.

Also had to try out my avatar - ain't the fam grand! That's right - I'm not in it! Maybe next avatar.

Angie Humphrey 09-01-2004 06:34 PM

Right after I sent my post I saw another thread that asked "Who is Lana?" and checked it out. I also went and checked out her gallery. I love that you guys have SCS goddesses. And although I don't know the Lana you all love, I know that it is because of women like her that I love this site. So as I become more and more familiar with this site I'm sure I will come to love Lana too.

Go Lana!!

PrideStampers 09-01-2004 06:56 PM

Ditto with Angie

tiny bubbles 09-02-2004 08:26 AM

My dh was really impressed with this when I showed him. He came up with the idea to do the "cover" envelopes with a faux leather kind of technique to make it look like an old book. Now I just have to figure out how the make the envelopes look like leather.

Thanks again Lisa!! Dawn

stampintree 09-02-2004 09:56 AM

SPONGING! Using the browns and rust will give you an antiquated look.

silvermo 03-30-2005 12:10 PM

It's interesting how simple things can be interpreted by others! I wondered if the envelopes went inside each other with the flap folded as is, or if they were folded backwards??? I now have one done with the flaps inserted with the fold as they come. Does the flap from the front envelope end up on the back of the last envelope???????

tiny bubbles 03-30-2005 12:17 PM

mine did.

craftymom 03-30-2005 08:26 PM

ok, I get how you start it, but how do you put it together. Do you fold then after you get them together and bind or what??

arcopes 03-30-2005 08:34 PM

I just licked and stuck some of the flaps inside. Mine haven't fallen apart.

Good luck...these are FUN!

A.

BabyNurse 03-31-2005 01:48 AM

Directionally impaired

I admit it. I am directionally impaired. I have turned these envelopes every way but loose and just cannot get it, although I love the idea. It is amazing how the most simple thing can confuse the tar out of me. I will keep working on it. Surely it will come eventually and I will slap myself on the head and say "duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh what was so hard about that?"
